  • Ordering Toshiba laptop! Question.

For anyone who knows about computers I have a question.

The laptop I want is Toshiba 2.80ghz, and dells are 3.06ghz. Is there a big difference, because I tried the toshiba 2.80ghz one and it was so fast I couldnt imagine it being faster. Like surfing through the internet is like changing the channel on the tv, there is no waiting at all. How can there be faster than that? I dont get it. Im no computer wiz but I dont see how it could be faster lol.

Maybe downloading stuff would be faster? Am I right?

I talked with the computer guy, but they tell you what you want to hear most of the time, so I want your opinions. Thanks,GM. ;)

actually, GM, if I am correct, anything pertaining to the speed at which you can surf the web and download things from the web depend solely on the type of connection you have. Your processor is responsible for the speed at which you can manipulate files and RAM!!!

That's correct. A high speed processor really helps when running multiple applications from your hard drive.

Browsing the internet really has nothing to do with the processor. you can have a 5.00ghz processer but if your connected to a phone line connection its going to be as slow as having a 1.0ghz processor. also, the dell would be the better computer to get bro. there support is unbeatable. plus its just a better all around computer.

A 2-3 ghz processor is really powerful and you don't have to be concerned w/that much power unless you are using it for intense graphic applications. Like some of the newer RPG games and simulators and/or graphic design. You would not be able to notice the difference in day to day browsing. However, like Bouncer said "go with the Dell" they have great customer support.

ya bro, there customer support cant be matched. they will actually send a tech to your house if something goes wrong. remember though bro, a nice computer isnt gonna do anything if you have a shitty internet connection. Have you looked into DSL or Cable?

Exactly....processor speed is like penis envy....everyone wants a bigger one, but the fact of the matter is that if you use your computer for internet surfing and downloading, save some $ and get a 2.0 at the most and go with a very fast connection like cable. Unless you are going to be doing some serious gaming or running multiple applications from your hard drive, then you will not be using an extremely fast processor to its full potential. The idea of more ghz is soooo overrated that alot of companies use as marketing ploys. People should really educate themselves on how these things operate before they make such a large investment.

Go with the dell, the costomer service is unbeatable. Toshibas can be questionable, and mediocre at best. Make sure you invest in either a DSL or cable connection.
