After being in Fla 16 years, almost all the friends that my brother and I have made down here are Italian guys from New York or Jersey. We did not seek them out, it's just who we had the most in common with.

Dude I was born and raised in NC. At 17 I joined the Army. Did my 20 years and retired. I to got home sick in the beginning. I've been to Oklahoma, Georgia, Germany, Holland, New Jersey, Hawaii to name a few. I currently live in Goergia and don't miss a thing about NC. What did I do. Well like the old saying goes, "When in Rome do like the Romans". I even learned to speak both German and a little Dutch. So my best advice is to get out and meet people, make some buds and quit being what we called a Barracks Rat. Your buds will help you get through anything. There's strenght in numbers. Good Luck! The only town I ever spent time in in NC is Charlotte. I was there this spring. If Charlotte is faster pace I'd hate to see what slow is! It is a beautiful area though.

Being far away from the place you are used to is a terrible thing. I had to overcome not only a new place, new people, but a new language and new customs as well. Maybe you should try to find a place, or a small something that reminds you about your home-state. Maybe spending some time there would help. When I get homesick, I try to remember that I am here for a better future, I find Shibby and cry on his shoulder. Then, all of a sudden, it is all better. But of course, I am not going to share him :D
