If people stopped attending dog fights,then the whole sport would disintegrate. The whole reason the dogs fight is for money. If there is no one to bet, then there is no fight.

The whole argument about the world's problems and the inability to solve them is an oxymoron to my argument. The world just turns a blind eye to so many issues, and take on the attitude that they can't do anything. This isn't a political issue, so don't turn it into one. I am looking for ways to eliminate these acts; not for people to tell me that as soon as I find a solution for world peace, that then and only then will people pay attention to my cause.

Attitudes like this are the reason this world continues to worsen

Well, I can understand the motivation now behind you remarks. You seem to be pretty defensive of Vick, and not so much the sport (or lack thereof) as a whole. We are not disputing the athleticism of Michael Vick here. Nor are we discussing anything remotely similar to any sort of racial or genetic superiority here. Don't take it there and turn this thread into a mess.

So, are pit bulls, rottweilers and doberman pinschers naturally aggressive or are they bread and trained to be agressive? Dogs for the most part are domestic animals so it would seem you could breed just about any character traits you wanted. A wild animal is a different story. And given those dogs' physical characteristics they would make excellent guard dogs so in that case aggressive would be desirable. But breeding them to fight is just such a waste.

I don't think it's people turning a blind eye to it, people have the mentallity of feeling it can't be changed is because there are too many people in this world who are unfeeling and are into this kind of violence. Look at how many people are in prison because of atrocities they've commited. You can't change the minds of these people who attend these events. They like it. They like the money and the violence that's associated with it. That's why people feel that it can't be stopped, because no one is going to stop going to them. Your cause is a noble one, but I feel the end result will be dissapointing. Hopefully i'm just pessimistic.

All I was trying to convey was, until ENOUGH people start caring what happens to other people, they're never going to care ENOUGH what happens to animals. You can "beat your drum" and scream from a soapbox until you're hoarse and tired, and you won't accomplish much for your efforts, except frustration. Don't you think there have been, (and are), many people, like yourself, and groups who have been fighting this same issue for many years. What have they accomplished? NOTHING! The practice of fighting dogs will NEVER stop, ever. If it makes you feel good to do something you care about, fine, go for it. But, it seems to me that banging your head against a wall and swimming upstream is a futile effort with no reward except self satisfaction...and maybe that's enough for you. Not enough people care as much about stopping it as there are people who practice it. We spend BILLIONS of dollars every year to stop illegal drug trafficking and other illegal practices and it's all a waste of money. If you were given 10 BILLION dollars to stop dog fighting, you would spend it all and still never stop it. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results. You are trying to do the same thing that many before you have tried, and you will have the same results. I know, I know, you say you can't just turn a "blind eye" or "sweep it under the rug" and just forget about it. Again, if it makes you feel good, the so be it, just remember, that's all you'll get, a good feeling. As the BOUNCER jokingly replied to my original post that I'm from the south, he knows I am, (and he too was for a while), I guess he got a better look at SOME southerner's while he was here and didn't like what he saw. Yes, some down here are still living life as it was a hundred years ago, and I don't like them either. However, all of "us" aren't that way, some of us actually have a little sense. I've never been to a cock fight, dog fight or any other animal fight, (except boxing), and I never intend to do so as I don't think it's right either. But I'm not a masochist and am not about to pick a fight when I know what the outcome is before I start. Unless it's against the government. BB
