Just get a Dell. The newer one Stromba has is really light weight and holds up great to being bounced around during business trips. It's much thinner than the old laptops and the keybord is a little smaller, but the clarity of the screen is amazing. Sorry, I don't know which model it is but it's enhanced for visual and audio demands.

Dell's customer service is excellent if you ever have any issues that you can't resolve on your own (my mother often needs their help and they're more patient with her than I could ever be  ).

I'm using an old laptop and it holds up to teenagers and puppies abusing it. When it gets slow, Stromba just does his magic and fixes it up. Dell's computers have always been good for us. Between the office and home we have 6 of their computers and never had any real problems with them.

Check consumer reports. Personally, I see a lot of HP and Gateway laptop problems w/various customers, but a large majority of them don't know anything about maintenance so they get bogged down w/all sorts malicious programs and files, etc. I tend to see less problems w/Dell laptops and hardly any w/Mac.

Personally I think as long as you go w/a good name brand model of your preference and keep it updated, secure, and maintained then it will last you a good while (until you get tired of it and decide to upgrade). When it comes to basic uses there is very little that separates the brands.

I guess that answers your question if they are any good or not, well like you said if you are only going to use it for basic stuff like internet surfing any brand should do the trick I mean look at it this way whatever brand you buy is gonna be old in a couple of months anyways.

Try these Bouncer, first site is the best IMO:

            www.deals2buy.com

            www.slickdeals.net

            www.passwird.com

            www.gotapex.com

            www.fatwallet.com

            www.dealslist.com

            www.dealsea.com

Most have overlapping deals but some have ones that others don’t.

Why don't you go with one of the $350 ones from Best Buy? You want a specific brand now?

Go to Best Buy. I have personally seen them in our local BB for under $500. I haven't seen the deals on the internet, but I honestly have seen them at the store.

                            Here's one for $400.

I don't see the ones at the store, but I'm sure if you go there, you'll find a deal. They are always getting rid of laptops because new ones are constantly replacing them.

That's wild - my store had at least 4 under $500. I'll keep looking online. I frequent some "shopping" type sites.
