Yes. The only catch is, on some *super* deals, the stores will only get a few. So you have to be ready when they open. Like when Best Buy does awesome deals, there's people in line for hours waiting for them to open at 5am.

the problem with many of the cheap ones is they come with vista and yet only have 512mb of memory. vista needs at least a gig of memory to run the way it should. there are a few cheap ones that come with the gig of memory though.

Again, the cheap ones I saw at BB had 1GB. And you're right, Vista NEEDS it - the startup/shutdown time kills me.

how much memory does you computer have? you can easily upgrade it. for like 50-70 bucks you can upgrade your computer to 2gigs of memory.

The memory doesn't have anything to do with it. And really, it's just a downfall of Vista. I usually just use hibernate on my laptop anyway - so it doesn't really bother me.
