I don't think socialized medicine is a good idea. The reason we have such great medical care is because the competition of business. In other countries you have to pay a crap load to go to a private doctor and get a second opinion. To actually get care by them is for the upper class. And from what I have been told by people with experience, the quality of care for the "free" doctors is sub-par. I do think we need a better way for low income people to obtain insurance though, like a subsidized health insurance.

I don't think tax cuts alone will do it....they need to get out of our lives and let people fend for themselves.
So let me get this straight- you complain about his tax plan, yet you don't take the time to read it? And actually, it was just a simple, side by side comparison of the tax cuts. All you have to do is compare Obama's column to Mccain's to see the proposed tax cuts. It's pretty cut and dry. You automatically assume he's not going to help cut taxes? PLEASE explain to me HOW that isn't as ignorant as it gets. People that also have no faith in government, really shouldn't be commenting on the current situation.

And as for health care, I'm not necessarily looking for a socialized system. What I am looking for is affordable premiums, and to NOT get taxed an extra $12k for a measley $5k tax credit...only to get dropped later.

Secondly- the government you are seeking DOESN'T EXIST. The closest you can come to no government help or intervention on any level would be an anarchy. An anarchy would be the type of "fend for yourself" government you seek. Please show me a successful society that adapted that approach. You can't have it both ways- you can't have a strong miliatry with no other government support in other areas.

Let me ask you this- let's say you lost your job, and couldn't find work for 1 year. You had gone through your savings in 4 months. You have NO disposable income. Your family has no money for food, let alone shelter. Under your plan, there would be no unemployment benefits, no food stamps. Are you telling me that you would rather suffer, and potentially have your family suffer because you think that's leaching of the government?

I've heard both sides. I've heard that a long wait, or sub par doctors is common. But then I have a close friend who's a nurse from Canada that said it's totally untrue. If you have a life threatening illness, you aren't put on a wait, not do you have to pay. However, on the flip side, a case of Heineken cost around $45. Point being- you pay for it somewhere.

I'm not for a socialized system, I'm all for reforming the current one. Insurance and drug companies & their lobbyists are a major part of the problem. Insurance premiums and general health costs are out of control. HOWEVER, the main reason for why the costs are where they are, is because those of us that are insured have to pay for those that aren't who seek medical treatment. What do we do then? It's a double edged sword...
