Dating inter racially, personally or through family. What problems you experienced, if any. Were you judged by people afterward? I mean, I know a guys who is a jackass who says he won't date girls who have gone out with/had sex with a black guy.Originally posted by Mr incredible View Postwhat exactly? sister going out with a black guy?

She WILL be judged, plain and simple. Again, it will be up to her as to whether she can/wants to handle that.

We can all be jackasses but seriousely no if I was dating a girl that had had a black boyfrieind it would make no difference, if she'd dated nothing but black men before I might wonder what problem she had with white guys.
FB's right you do get judged.
Do you think she's genuinely with him for him though or with him cos she wants to be seen with a black guy to get togues wagging?

Are you sure that your mom is uneasy simply about her dating a black guy or is she concerned with what your sister will have to endure to make it work? Maybe she just wants your sister to understand that she doesn't understand how cruel the world can be. Maybe that's the approach you need to take and just make sure she is prepared instead of trying to stop the inevitable (not that you are against it Chris). It's kind of like safe sex. Do you want to prepare your kids or just tell them to don't do it and hope it never happens.Last edited by Shibby; 08-10-09, 07:23 PM.

very good adviceOriginally posted by dbjmofo View Posthmm. here is an issue that has come up in my family. my uncle is currently dating this girl who is white. my family is pretty liberal with him, considering he's on his own and is like 30-something. my family said they don't mind what he does as long as he keeps it away from the family, but they also said if he ends up marrying her, they'll be 100% supportive. basically my family is against dating.
but honestly, you should just play a neutral role. if i was in your situation, i'd just sit her down and say "hey, uhm, mom's uneasy about this whole boy situation." this way, your sister will know why your mom is uneasy when she brings him up or over. but then, if you're supportive, let her know. just don't pick sides (mom vs. sister). ultimately, it is a hard decision for someone in your sister's position when her mom and brother, both assumingly influential in her life, are taking different sides on an issue that's very personal. and this way, it'll open a door for her to get your advice in her future relationships as well.
as for the not wanting a daughter, mr. incredible has a point, they do tend to keep in touch with family but it all depends on their relationship with their parents.
