As a scientist, I think religion is a waste of time. But if it makes you happy, go for it. I am not going to assail anyone for following religion. People do lots of things with their time that I wouldn't consider doing - if it floats their boat, who am I to object.

But religion needs to stay a personal thing. When people start forcing their religion on others, or changing national or educational policy based on their religious beliefs, or claiming religion to be equivalent to science in rational thought, then of course the gloves come off.

Perhaps a compromise on this board is to not berate or needle others for their beliefs, but to take them to task if they make claims that are inconsistent with rational thought.

Exactly. I'll keep my life out of religion when religion is kept out of my life. Seems fair but we know it will never happen. The imperialistic nature of religion makes this impossible. Bouncer tries to tell me to ignore it all. Maybe it's because he doesn't have kids or simply lives a specific enough life that it doesn't effect him. But it has it's hand in just about every part of life, so living life free from religion is impossible. I always like to give a general reminder that freedom of religion includes freedom from religion.

It sounds easy enough but the whole concept of faith is irrational. That's why it's called faith. I always try to discuss things respectfully at first. Then the more redicoulous things get it's a tailspin for everyone.

Please cite a few examples of how religion has intruded into your life this week and how it has negatively effected you.

The contents of the bag included a change of clothes, toilet paper, candles, KY jelly and flexible plastic ties.)

Wow you really just don't get it. I'm not a religious nut, but most christians believe there is good and evil. Ya know how Satan was an angel at once and he fell from heaven? Well there is a constant battle between good and evil and like in the examples you provide, good doesn't always win. Sometimes the devil wins. Is that so difficult for you to comprehend?

Just a few? Will 1 or 2 justify any in my life? Will 5 or more earn me bonus points? I don't have a problem getting into it, I just want to better understand what you are trying to find out.

                    How about three?

Three simple examples of how you have been personally abused by religion this week.

1 that happens around once a week is someone trying to scare my son into going to hell if he doesn't believe.

The traffic jam the church down the street constantly causes after leaving all their constant stuff they do at the church; and then some dipshit walking out in the road to stop cars to let the church goers out of the parking lot. It's their choice to go to church, if they have to wait for an opening to leave the parking lot then so be it.

For my wife, an christian anti-abortion protest with people standing between lanes holding their signs to get the most attention. People having to worry about hitting them instead of focusing on normal driving.
