China and India are a very good comparison. Both are large countries with a huge impoverished rural population. Both have shitty Asian genes, average dude is 5'5, 110 lbs....... only difference is the political and institutional will to decide they are going to compete and go make it happen with some level of integrity.

I wouldn't trade democracy for all the riches in the world. But that being said, India seriously needs to get its shit together as far as corruption is concerned. It is like a cancer, eating away at everthing there and things will not get better if that is not fixed.

I agree with most of that. The cyclist wrecking on purpose was ridiculous, but it seems that it is common just most people don't verbally admit to crashing on purpose.

Only thing I wonder with Phelps is although its a spectacle that he has so many golds, if he'd retured before the games and the coaches attention was towards newer talent then someone else mighta got gold, probably woulda, or don't you have any young talent coming through.

I was kidding. And I did mean total, because that in itself is amazing - obviously, since it hasn't been done in what 40 years?

I think Phelps is just that good. There are some amazing athletes out there, and I'm sure plenty more that just go unseen. However, you can not take anything from Michael. He is raw talent when it comes to swimming.

Have you been watching Missy Franklin? She's only 16, and competing in numerous events, even swimming two races less than 10 mins apart. Another amazing athlete.
