That's cool bro... I guess you want to see the scenery like they have in the movie. I don't know too much about Okinawa, but I can assure you that it does not have anything that other places in Japan don't have many times over.

If it is pure mountainous scenery, I think the Tohoku region (northern Japan) has it in spades. But if it were me, I would plan a Japan visit around Tokyo and then the Kansai region (south-central portion of the main island of Honshu). Main city is Osaka and the areas around there (Kyoto, Nara, Himeji), etc. represent the essence of Japanese culture. Kyoto is one of the most beautiful cities you can visit. If you have interest in Japanese culture, you've got to center your visit around Kyoto.
