But I do everything I can to get him involved in any other activities....but when they dont want anything to do with it ya cant force it or it just turns um away even more. So I try and get involved a few nights a week after work with what he enjoys just to show him Im there for him. But anything I try to do outside his intrests I get told a flat no, or I get told...well dad...maybe next tuesday I( meaning him) can fit it in...LOL Of course when next tuesday rolls around, its always another excuse not to go. Rips my heart out but theres not much that can be done. He has improved a bit over the years and we can only hope with time he will continue to do so.

Don't force it bro.. .my older son is exactly like that. He likes math, physics and music. That's pretty much it. Couldn't care less if he flunked history lol... As long as he can can be reasonably comfortable around other people (which is a bit of a struggle with my son as he simply does not want any interaction outside the family), he'll turn out fine. Not everyone is going to be the life of the party.

              • I'll weigh in on this briefly for perspectives sake. First of all lets examine the blanket statement of taking all guns. Never mind my personal belief that its a knee jerk reaction that doesn't even begin to address the actual problem but lets take a look at our "gun culture".

Our right to bear arms is secured by our Constitution. Not to hunt, not to target shoot, but because we fought a bloody and violent civil war-The American Revolution, that was won on the backs of armed farmers--our militia. Without it, history concludes that our likelihood of winning against the British was doubtful. As our nation was founded, our forefathers recognized that an armed citizenry is what keeps government honest and men feeling free. Britain regulates tremendously in their country to this day. Depending upon the government for protection merely means you are at the disposal of the government. History bears this out as you look at some other nations that seized firearms. Hitlers Nazi Germany, Russia, etc. And no, I am not comparing Britain to them, I am saying a populace that allows itself to be herded like sheep is easier to control and unfortunately hurt when the government chooses. Most other countries that have regulated guns have done so since their inception. The Crown has ALWAYS dictated the arming of it citizenry, to include it colonies..that form of government has been adopted as independence is gained. Just as America has ALWAYS said it is every mans right to keep and bear arms to protect from tyranny.

Now lets look at the statistic that less people would die if the public wasn't armed. Statistical fact Average casualties of a mass shooting incident in America where law enforcement intervened----14.29. Average casualties in a mass shooting in America where a citizen intervened-----2.33. Depending upon the government and law enforcement, which is reactionary in nature, means more casualties. Its just a fact of combat..Action beats reaction every time.

Criminals use guns to commit crimes. Statistically .00003% of legally owned guns in the US are used to kill others. No its not a typo.

You cannot say spoons make you fat, you cannot say that wrestling shoes can make you an Olympic wrestler, and you cannot say that guns kill people. To give that power to an inanimate object is ignorant. Wolves will always find a way to prey on the sheep. Cain killed Abel in the Bible--with his shoe for all we know. Evil is present, it is out there and it will find a way. I for one carry a firearm with me everyday, and I have for 20 years. I would rather carry it every day of my life and never need it then need it one time and not have it. Our nation is built on the backs of free men. Men that have always protected themselves and those they cared about from those that would hurt them. Ask yourself if one teacher had been properly trained and carrying a firearm how many kids would have been killed? Be objective in that thought process. Shitheads target schools for a reason.

Yes the Conn tragedy is horrific. It is ghastly, and it is hard to watch. But evil is out there, forget about it for a second and you will pay the price. There are other questions out there that need to be asked, rather then the knee jerk reaction of banning firearms. Just my two cents.

this thread has been you pointing fingers and casting blame while others make "stimulating and progressive" posts.

spot on about the women thing though.

                  • here are some facts to interject
If you compare the crime statistics with gun control laws I think you will find a correlation. For example Australia has extremely strict gun control laws and is ranked #1 for total crime.

                    • Here is a comparison by country and gun ownership from the Guardian a U.K. source
Here is the just of it
                      "The key facts are:

                      • The US has the highest gun ownership rate in the world - an average of 88 per 100 people. That puts it first in the world for gun ownership - and even the number two country, Yemen, has significantly fewer - 54.8 per 100 people
                      • But the US does not have the worst firearm murder rate - that prize belongs to Honduras, El Salvador and Jamaica. In fact, the US is number 28, with a rate of 2.97 per 100,000 people
                      • Puerto Rico tops the world's table for firearms murders as a percentage of all homicides - 94.8%. It's followed by Sierra Leone in Africa and Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean"

                      Comment

                      • Somehow I think that comparing ourselves favorably to Yemen, El Salvador, Honduras, Jamaica, Sierra Leone and such is unbecoming of the "greatest country on Earth."

                            • those with easiest access to a firearm are most likely to commit a gun crime, statistical fact

                              • No matter what there will always be the scum that commit these crimes.

The fact that guns are legal in the US makes it easier.

I'm on the fence. Mr I is right, but at the same time I feel in some instances it probably prevents shit.

Rocket - If I had a gun there would be one less rapist or maybe one more happily married man.

Either way, lunatics find a way gun, knife, machete whatever. Mr I is right guns make it a higher mortality rate.
