  • Another gun question

Starting this year I would like to purchase one new firearm a year. It will be my Christmas present to myself. I have a couple riles & shotguns but only one handgun (9mm). I’ve had it for years. Great gun for target practice since the rounds are relatively cheap. I’d like to get another handgun and I’m thinking a .45 would be my next purchase. I’d like this to be a gun that I can carry concealed and also use it for home protection. Looking to spend somewhere around $500-$600.

Where do you guys purchase your ammo? I know there is a panic in the US and everyone is buying guns and ammo but every site is sold out. Is everyone preparing for the zombie apocalypse? lol It's crazy!! Looking to purchase 500-1000 rounds for my 9mm and it seems impossible unless you want to spend a crazy amount of cash.

Just hold out for ammo, more is coming.

I use to carry a 9mm daily, but decided that I wanted to carry .45. Just picked up a Springfield Armory XDs, it is a slim and tiny little beast.

I have never shot a compact pistol like that before. How is the accuracy? Why did you end up selecting that model?

I am not some precision shooter, but I kept good groupings out to 15 feet. I

I choose it mainly on size. I have wanted a small .45 for a while, and this thing disappears in my waistband. It is small and light, but you give up capacity. It is strictly my carry gun, my nightstand gun is full size.

Sorry. Just noticed that you wanted a gun to conceal and use as HD. In that case I would go with a Glock 30 (sf if you have medium size hands). Use the 10 round mags for CC, and have some 13 rounders loaded up in your nightstand.

Maybe I should decide between a concealed gun and a HD gun. I have my 9mm loaded up by my nightstand. So maybe looking at a concealed gun only is a better option. My 9mm is way too bulky to carry concealed.

Many of the guys I work with that choose to carry a .45 use a Kimber Pro Carry, or the Super Carry- both are single action though I don't know if your comfortable with that, but it is thin and leaves a low signature for concealed carry. Glock 30 is also good although a bit wider, its a double action pistol and has a slightly higher round capacity.

def have onr for both! the lil compacts are way harder to shoot. I am not a pro but I shoot good IMO and I can tell a huge difference in a smaller glock like the G19 compared to the G17
now if you buy better gun you can help fix someof that. My compact Wilson Combat compact($4000) will out shoot any glock in my hands at least. but in your $ range I would look at Glock, XD and even used HKs. I have HK and Glock. IMO the glock sucks ass but I dropped another $1800 on it to make it a nice gun,lol

is there a range to rent guns first in your area? thats your best bet.

I like Glocks because they aren't little bitches. 1911 need a lot of love and care (and oil) Glocks are ready to rock and roll even when they are dry as hell.

I carry an XD . 45 I keep the 10 rnd mag in it plus one in the chamber is 11. I have an old gerber knife pouch I can fit the extended mag in and carry it on my light side. It conceals well with the 10 rnd Mag and a Crossbreed Holster.

typical AK vs AR arguement! do you want accuracy or shoot dirty? Me personaly I know how to clean a gun and I know how and where to lube so I will never have a issue.

besides he is asking for CC not going to war.
If going to war I would still not take a glock I would take HK45.
saying all that for the price you can not beat a Glock

I disagree:) I would have to say that Glock is the most rugged combat pistol in the world. And I shoot plenty accurately with it. They simply don't fail. Show me one other pistol that has stood up to the continuous and constant scrutiny and torture tests. Show me one 1911 frame that has even come close to the kind of torture tests that the Glock has endured. Ya you can customize the shit out of a 1911, I have a custom Kimber..love the thing to death actually, but at the end of the day it has more moving parts, and requires more overall maintenance than my Glock. Its simply just the way it is. The tolerances a 1911 platform is built to simply cannot stand up to the constant abuse of a regular high volume shooter, or an austere environment. And I love my 1911. I consider the HK to be an overpriced designer pistol. Not saying its not a good pistol ROCKET;) but you are paying for a logo and hype rather than performance or function.

Note I was addressing the statement about overall accruacy, reliability and functionality of a stock Glock pistol in a combat environment or high use environment. As I said there are very nice guns out there, Kimber makes some great 1911 platforms, there are alot of custom handguns, and there are some off caliber pistols that are fun to shoot. If your a casual shooter, or clean/carry your gun more than you shoot it, then I am sure any of these would work well.

I appreciate all the advice. I'm going to do some research on the guns you recommended. Thanks again.

Deca, what kind of gun is that?
