Multiple reasons. Mainly taking them from people they know, stealing them, buying them off the streets, some private deals etc.

One thing I know needs fixed is I don't think hey do a thorough mental background check. On the form it asks if you've ever been committed to a mental institution but I don't think they actually check that. It is a felony to lie on the form but it doesn't stop people. It goes on your word which is bs.

My mother in law has spent some time in there, takes anti depressants, talks about suicide and yet she has firearms and a concealed carry license. Blows my fuckin mind and she does NOT need to be carrying a gun and probably legally can't but she slips though the cracks. Perhaps because she committed herself and not against her will.

I'm all for gun rights for Americans of even automatic weapons, silencers, short barrelled rifles etc but I do think that the instant criminal background check needs to also include mental health with clearly defined go/no go issues.

The reason I own firearms and carry one on a daily basis has little to do with criminals other guns. Protecting my family from criminals of all kinds whether they have guns, knives, other weapons or a hard dick looking to rape, I don't care. Self preservation (immediate family included) is my right that I take very seriously.

In my area we tend to get a lot of vagrants going car to car in parking lots with bullshit stories about being out of gas and broken fown cars to scrounge money for drugs. These dipshits tend to get desperate at times and use violence to get take money. They hardly ever use guns but generally grab victims through car windows and use a knife to threaten.

Other than protection from violent criminals, shooting for sport is just a lot of damn fun.

Guns are very dangerous and people with mental issues can get them far to easily in this country. That is a fact.

Do you think extremely strict laws on illegally owned guns in your possession would deter?

And to the case in point legally owned guns are the owners responsibility to keep out of possession of family members? If a family member gets one of your guns it will be investigated if you secured them properly. If not you lose all your guns, your right to own guns and depending on the crime committed with your gun you also get a certain level of punishment in conjunction with the determined negligence.
