                Ok serious for a change

Rocket, my views on the slack gun laws and their correlation to gun deaths in the US in general is well established on here. I just dont get serious about it now because I realise that as a Brit my views are of no consequence in the minds of an American audience who simply view me as an outsider who doesn't understand.

But in what is probably an equally futile effort, my view, since you asked, on the police is a mutually exclusive one and separate from guns per se. Specifically, whatever means of force the police have, they are dispensing them without the right controls (shooting a hancuffed man, beating a homekess guy to death in the street, choking a portugese father to death in vuew if his wife screamibg them to stop, chokibg a bkack guy to death fir sellibg cigarettes, these are onky the cases caught on camera) and generally unchecked. This needs addressing because in layman's terms I think your police are not in control of their actions as much as they should be. Yes tgere are thousands of great cops but the impact of austerity on wages and a general dumbing down of their training and civility along with a skewed proportionality on their behavioural values means the US has a problem with its police that needs redress.

Because it's putting the world off America and threatens large scale civil unrest there.

Put simply, the problem with the cops is not that they gave guns, it's a problem with the cops.

Here is the problem with many of the analogies that you make-not all but a huge percentage...you read a few articles on the big wide web and you preach those as the new overwhelming trend or a common denominator of the entire issue. Are there shitty cops? Yes. Are there shitty doctors? Yes. Mail carriers? Yup. McDonalds fry technicians? Absolutely. But to categorize an entire profession in the United States based on what is clearly, and I truly mean clearly, a biased media hell bent on sowing controversy at every turn...well it really undermines anything you seek to establish on here with those folks that can string two sentences together.

Looking at your law enforcement issue objectively....Roughly 900,000-probably less (Federal and State) police officers in America--that has a population of 350 million plus people. There are approx 240 million 911 calls a year...so we aren't counting contacts due to patrol, DUI, investigation etc. in that number. Of those 240+...and its a big plus, contacts in the United States--a country with 350 million people...resulted in 400 deadly force incidents. Which is actually IS NOT a substantial increase. Meanwhile what is statistically increasing is the deaths of law enforcement officers...By 56% percent.

As we know what we see on the media and get exposed to is completely subjective-and the media and people alike love to sow discontent..and if you run of that cliff like a lemming without questioning what you are being told, it undermines your credibility. You take a media slant on anything and you can spin it.

For instance...lets take Britain. 127,000 police officers in England and Wales. 3000 of them are currently be investigated for brutality and corruption. Blacks and minorities represent 56% percent of the victims in these cases. Population of England and Wales together is 56 million.

Based on these numbers we could easily say the police in England are out of control. There is always more to a story. You throw out inflammatory shit from some nut wing media outlet--like everyone in Waco was killed by police sniper fire...WTF lol. And then use it to portend that law enforcement in the United States is off the rails--it just ain't so--we are seeing more because our world has gotten smaller, and more oversight for those in power is always a good thing--body cams etc, but it's not the anarchy you're preaching...I will say that in the last 7 years, I have never seen our country so divisive, both economically and racially as it has been since this administration took over..and with that I'm gonna go watch sponge bob with my kiddo...

Over 3,000 police officers being investigated for alleged assault - and almost all of them are still on the beat - Crime - UK - The Independent

I would preface by saying that Rocket asked for my serious view with regard to cops and guns, so I gave it.

The difference is the UK cops aren't killing people in the large numbers and complaints are handled pretty well by and large.

You can cheap shot that I only read wacky media and "anyone who can string two sentences together" but in fact I read and listen to a range to get balance. Yes there are two sides to each story but there are a high number of blatant killings on film that have occurred on US soil and that's not a matter of which media played the video evidence, it's fact.

But you got a few likes so enjoy sponge bob satisfied lol (that was a joke )

I did say in my post that there are clearly lots of good cops too.

I just think that there are training issues and salary issues. You get what you pay for in life.

I also accept that I am not tgere to see it in the eyes of someone who lives it though so accept that someone like yourself that is has more credibility on the subject.

                    Cheers

Ok so why is it that if a biker or drug addict shoots someone you have a problem with guns?
You statement above is correct it's the bad cops not the guns they use. Just like people it's the bad people not the guns they use.

I agree there are millions of good cops but they only show the bad ones and half them prob ain't bad as media makes them.
I don't think we have a police problem the media is just on a bad cop kick cuz it's makes good news right now

Thanks Rocket, and to add, in being fair, the US is far from the worst, even quite ok when compared to other countries (Venezuela, El Salvador) in terms of firearm related homicides, on a per capita basis.

Still room for much improvement IMO

And the UK does absolutely have its problems, rape has not been dealt with as seriously as it should have in the past.

Thankfully it is being properly addressed now

Fella said he was there to kill black people... Here we go again. Nutcases have access to guns far to easily here.

I'm not saying guns should be banned, I'm saying it should be a harder process with more mental evaluation testing before being able to acquire a weapon capable of killing so many so easily.
