Scrum this may be part of your issue with verizon. The article seems to claim that verizon is selling off it's fiber and copper networks and concentrating more on the north east in terms of land lines.

If they could sell off every piece of fixed wireline/fiber infrastructure without legal issues it would have been done long ago.

The only reason they haven't dumped the northeast is due to contractual obligations (that they have failed to meet thus far). There are pending lawsuits on the matter.

i seem to remember a huge fiber laying push from them a few years ago. was that not something they wanted to do?

The money they invested (30 billion) has not returned profit as quickly as wireless has grown.

makes sense. well lets hope someone (google) steps up to the plate with nationwide fiber. we are absolutely gonna need it for the future. I have more faith in google doing it then I do the gov.
