  • Had to order a new type of leash made out of flexible mountain climber rope. She is 5 1/2 months now and she is already a stronger puller than my full grown mastiff, rottweiler, or boxer ever were. I think it's because she is lower to the ground than any of my other dogs in the past but she has the same level of musculature. It get's to be a bit of a pain with traditional leashes because there is no give in the lease, when she pulls for a squirrel, lizard, or a fish all that energy is immediately transferred into me and it's not fun. She's getting better as I've been teaching her but she's still a pup and she still has a hard time controlling herself when she spots a little animal on the trail. I call her "Honey Bull" because I believe she is a cross between a honey badger and a pitbull. lol.

Has a break strength of 1500lbs so I should be good. lol

    • I got a similar one before. Still use it, but it is quite uncomfortable to use for the owner. After each time using it, my hand and wrist are kind of sore because of the rope burn chafing.

Interesting, I'll have to see how I like it then. Though I usually don't put the leash around my wrist. They should put some softer fabric where the handle is if rope burn is an issue.

            • She is a pretty girl.

I have had good experience with Ruff Wear. Check them out. I have a husky and know about the pulling.

              • ruff wear. i'll look now.

yea im sure huskies are pullers basically being sled dogs.

ive though about choke chains but anyone that doesnt understand would think im "one of those dog owners" know what i mean.

                • This combo collar and leash looks interesting. Ruffwear Just-a-Cinch

Turbo, which ruff wear products do you use specifically? I want something like a choke type collar that doesn't look like one. I don't want people thinking I abuse the dog and all that.

                    I use this collar:

                    Ruffwear Chain Reaction

                    This leash:

                    Ruffwear Knot-a-Leash

The leash has lasted 7 years and he even chewed on it as a puppy and I just tied a knot at the spot of the bite, still works like a champ.

This leash is great for pullers, but I don't know if it will have enough length.

Ruffwear Ridgeline Leash - a Portable, Compact, Stretchy Leash for Dogs

The slip collar is great for pullers, but you have to work with them. It isn't inhumane if you use it correctly.

                    • Thanks Turbo, do they make the leashes in 6 feet length rather than just 5 feet? I had a 5 feet leash and I found that it made things harder for me because I was too close to the back of the dog and couldn't lean back and use my body weight to help with the pulling. I was almost tripping over her. I find the 6 feet length to be that perfect mix between control and distance.

                      • Great Dog Whisperer episode about a human aggressive pit bull that Ceaser calls his most dangerous case. Amazing how the projection of ones self can completely change everything. A dog senses calm authority and they react to it, even this extreme case. Great episode that shows a true transformation. IMO humans should have some level of experience and training before being able to own a "dangerous" dog breed.

                        • That was a good episode. Ceaser def knows his shit. Amazing how much he changed that pit's demeanor, but i would still definitely be worried for the rest of that dogs life. Things could eventually seem in control, but that dog could just snap one day and maul the shit out of somebody...same could be said about any dog, but idk if i'd ever feel safe around the pit due to it's background.
