The rest of the world wonders how a nation that can land a man on the moon and create a microchip with a billion transistors can't seem to figure out how to put in sensible legislation to have background checks, etc. to keep guns out of the hands of those who are unstable. It simply boggles the mind.

It isn't surprising to the extent that I'm not even watching the coverage this time.
The root obviously is one of helplessness. Whether it's the government pushing us around, rich getting away with anything, employees being used to the point of abuse, courts being to soft in the wrong places and to hard where they shouldn't, selfish society that belittles, judges and steps on everyone...
To what Bouncer was saying. The country has become a money hungry, fame seeking, self centered environment.Last edited by TKD; 10-01-15, 10:52 PM.

Plenty of those laws on the books.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostThe rest of the world wonders how a nation that can land a man on the moon and create a microchip with a billion transistors can't seem to figure out how to put in sensible legislation to have background checks, etc. to keep guns out of the hands of those who are unstable. Agency X doesn't properly report to agency Y, now agency Z can't access the information to make a determination. It is big government at its' finest. The areas with the strictest gun laws have the most crime.....odd.
We have a problem for sure, I'm just not sure if it is caused by an inanimate object.
Maybe we can outlaw murdering your classmates....wait...I think that might actually be illegal. Take the guns away and new ways to kill or harm will take over.

Lets allow the facts to come out and see..most likly another >>>mental issue again.. its freeking sad this is what they do now...news is partly to blame as they pound it into peoples heads..those with weak minds looking for attention figure this is it the way for people to see and make their point.
The whole Religion thing is kinda scary.. reports of asking then shooting. Again..time will tell.
As Ive stated in the past..this whole gunfree zone thing we have in america is very dangerous.(I know it sounds stupid) Simply for the reason of it gives sick people like this an easy target and allows them to select their targets much easier with no risk. I think gun free zones shouldnt be pronounced and advertized so much. Im stll waiting for Ach-med and Ali-babba to walk into walmarts shopping malls and schools all over the county at once and start throwing grenades and spraying AK fire into the crowds...its comming folks..
Goverment needs to bring back the death penalty for any crime commited with the intent to harm others..guily= immeidate death..no appeals killum..when criminals understand there are real consequenses to their actions..in time..i think there will be a reduction in crime. untill then. there will not.

Seems he was a loner (shocking), claimed to be "spiritual" and didn't like the way we are all so materially obsessed.

Could be a product of our new "everyone gets a trophy". "Everyone is special", "it's OK to be offended by everything" America.Originally posted by FitnessBrat View PostSeems he was a loner (shocking), claimed to be "spiritual" and didn't like the way we are all so materially obsessed.

I definitely don't agree with "everyone gets a trophy" and all of that nonsense, but WHO CARES if people want fancy cars and all those things. That isn't new. The part that's new is the feelings of entitlement. It's fine to have fancy cars and nice things....if you EARNED them.

If this is true..there are no laws that can ever be made or inforced that can stop someone like this.. they will always find a means..
The Oregon college gunman who murdered at least nine people was today named as Chris Harper-Mercer - a 26-year-old with links to Britain who celebrated other mass murderers and said: 'The more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight'.
The killer, who said he idolized the IRA and Nazis, yesterday walked into Umpqua Community College in Roseburg wearing body armor and carrying three handguns and a rifle before shooting dead students.
Witnesses said he had made his victims stand-up at gunpoint and say if they were Christian before telling them: 'Good, you'll see God in a second' and shooting them. Survivors only saved their own lives by playing dead.
After his bloody rampage was reported to police he was then killed in a gunfight with officers with one source saying: 'He appears to be an angry young man who was very filled with hate'

I don't think anyone will disagree there is a problem. You'll definitely never get everyone to agree on what that problem is. A lot of good points made in this thread. As turbo says "inanimate objects" are not the issue but who's hands and how they get into certain hands is a point of concern. Laws are there that are obviously inept.
Look at Chicago; something like 6000 shootings and 1400 murders since 2008 in a state with some of the strictest gun laws.

I would like to know why it doesn't happen in Australia or Canada. Or anywhere in Europe. Or even in the worst 3rd world shitholes.
Nobody is saying outlaw guns. But we MUST figure out how to keep them out of the hands of crazy people.

I agree but I'm not sure there is an answer. I am usually a know it all who sees in black and white and for the most part that makes things pretty clear to me. This issue however gets me every time. I don't know how a government with so many road blocks will ever be able to agree on anything or even understand the problem.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostI would like to know why it doesn't happen in Australia or Canada. I just know that in this country, banning civilians from owning weapons will end up worse than prohibition.
