That's a hypothetical situation that I see as a highly improbable event for me. Not implying that I live in some hifaluting neighborhood and all you guys who carry are in some sketchy areas or anything, but the likelihood of an armed robbery or home invasion is so remote for me that the hassle and potential danger of a firearm, not to mention the time/effort/money for proper training to store and use it far outweigh any potential benefits. If I was fearing for my life every day, that may be a different story, but for my situation, preparing for such an unlikely event seems pointless.

But I think we both know that if faced with my scenario of a home invasion and if I were able to freeze time and offer you a gun right at the moment of that home invasion to defend your family, you'd take the gun..

Through out the years of my apartment manager job I've had cops come to my door a few times because of fighting couples and stuff and even when they bang on the door to wake me up is just a disturbing feeling. bro rest assured, when it comes to my family all jokes stop. there is no hot air. i'm sure it would be a terrifying experience, but it's not about being a tough guy or being brave. In that situation it's my families life on the line and I would not hesitate to do whatever it takes. A gun would certainly increase my chances.

It's hard to beat the reliability of a Glock and they are so simple to take apart and clean. That would be my recommendation. Next thing to consider is the size and caliber. Since you won't be carrying concealed definitely get a full size (standard). And would recommended a 9mm or .40 caliber. Nothing wrong with getting a used gun. I have bought from armslist before and snagged a great deal. Just like craigslist you can negotiate with the seller. Below is a Glock 22 in the Sacramento area (forget where you are located). My only fear of buying used would be that I don't know enough about guns to spot a problem. I would need to know the place I'm buying from is extremely trust worth and not just a craigslist/ebay type gun shop.

All transactions/paper work would be done at a gun shop. I'm sure for a small fee the shop will go over it to make sure there are no issues. You can save some money buying used but if you're not too worried about the cost then absolutely buy new.
