Saying that they are stupid is stupid. It's a cultural thing. Has nothing to do with intelligence.

If the culture of your country means it's in a constant state of shit, I think it's fair to question the intelligence of a country that has no desire to make changes to said culture.Originally posted by redback View PostSaying that they are stupid is stupid. Shit to who? Shit to you. Not shit to them. instead of questioning their intelligence maybe you should question your inability to understand cultural differences.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostIf the culture of your country means it's in a constant state of shit, I think it's fair to question the intelligence of a country that has no desire to make changes to said culture.

Given that this thread has predictably descended into xenophobic, racist rhetoric that has no basis whatsoever in fact, I have hesitated for several hours on whether to respond. When a thread starts with weather and descends into IQ, lack of culture, overcrowding and rape, it's time to bail - it's not worth my time to joust with idiots, especially those who have a chip on their shoulder regarding brown-skinned people.
But I will say this - you guys don't have a FUCKING clue what you are talking about. Use the only thing that separates you from the rest of the apes - your fucking brain!
Is India perfect? By no means so! It is a poor country overall, but due to a vibrant and ancient culture, a stable government structure and rule of law, and a very well educated middle and upper-middle class, it is making rapid strides towards 1st world status. I'd give it about 30-40 years to make it.
Now, let's unpack the sentiments that seem to have taken over this thread from post 36 onwards (redback not included).
Let's address the question of the continued state of the nation. Let's leave aside the fact that it was raped by Britain for 250 years and robbed blind. But India has been independent for about 70 years and has been a democracy throughout. No coups, no military rule, nothing. It has steadily improved its economy and has the 7th highest GDP in the world. I give it 10 years to overtake Britain and France to get to 5th place and my prediction is that it will be in 3rd place by 2050. Ahead of everyone except China (which will be #1) and the US.
Let's talk about violent crime, shall we? When you read an article written by a Pakistani journalist, one should immediately seek clarification on the veracity of the claims therein.
Let's look at the violent crime stats:
USA in 2013 (source: FBI):
Murder: 14,196
Rape: 79,770
Robbery: 345,031
India in 2013 (Source: Indian National Crime Records Bureau):
Murder: 33,201
Rape: 33,707
Robbery: 31,927
Given that the population of India is 3 times that of the US, I would say that one is FAR less likely to get raped in India than in the US - less than 1/6th as likely! And much, much less likely to get robbed. It's not even close!
The laughable attempt to use Hindu religion as some kind of reasoning for the "rape culture" is beyond stupid. It borders on the delusional! As anyone with even a casual knowledge of the religion would know, the Mahabharatha and other Hindu religous texts has far more instances of chivalry and support of women's rights than the ridiculous things listed in that article. The characters mentioned there wouldn't even be appearing in the rolling credits at the end if the Mahabharatha was a movie, so to point to them as an example of why India has a "rape culture" is absolutely ludicrous. Which is pretty much expected from a Pakistani journalist who of course has turned a so-called "Indian problem" into a "Hindu problem!" How convenient, even though rape is not religion-specific and India is a multi-ethnic society!! Is the reason you are so much more likely to be robbed in the US a result of the Bible encouraging people to rob each other? Sheer insanity - the product of people choosing not to think.
But all this rational thought process requires a modicum of interest, a smidgen of integrity, an infinitesimal level of intellectual curiosity, to not conflate a whole bunch of things together, wrap it all up in a nice shell of xenophobia, racism and other vile ideas and throw it out there. But the trainwreck that is thread is about as much as I can expect, I have come to learn.

It's not xenophobic to state that India is less civilised. It's not xenophobic to state it has a rape crisis. These aspects are recognised internationally. Any statistics available can only show those reported cases, not the unreported. There are many religions in India beyond Hindu.
To deny them is delusional and it's shallow and weak to hide behind the racism card. It has a problem which it recognised and is starting to address following international pressure.
Throughout history mankind fought to survive and it "was" winner takes all. Britain was pound for pound a big hitter at one time and yes no doubt plundered India.
India can have a bright future and is already part of the BRICS trade partnership. It's development and the success thereof depends on a good infrastructure, civility and amenable culture. Internationally it is looked down on by women and in the west we respect women's rights.

Good post. A lot of comments made here on topics other than bodybuilding and gear are preposterous and ill informed. I guess we are dealing with a bunch of meatheads who constantly make it clear they have no respect for other cultures or races other than their own. All it does is show how ignorant they are.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostGiven that this thread has predictably descended into xenophobic, racist rhetoric that has no basis whatsoever in fact, I have hesitated for several hours on whether to respond. Speaking to the point about England dominating India for 250 years.
Lets make my viewpoint easy to understand by taking the human and emotional aspect out of it. I see no color so playing any sort of race card with me is weak at best. Hell scrum, I've said time and time again over the years that I consider you probably the smartest all around guy here. You only want to point to racism when my view is different from yours.
Please please please answer the following question and try your hardest to answer without any sort of human emotion.
If we were to observe a group of apes continually dominating other groups of apes in the forest would it be considered ridiculous to assume that there is something superior about the dominating group of apes? Would it be ridiculous to assume that there is something about the groups of apes being dominated that simply isn't as good? Would simply asking a question and leaving the possibility open that maybe the dominating group has higher intelligence be considered racist?

I don't think real life is quite that simple.Originally posted by Bouncer View Post

Maybe. Or maybe the human mind clouds the issue with race and culture. If we were to observe domination of one group over another in any life form other than human we'd have a much easier time seeing a clear picture I think. You'd simply assume the dominate group is superior to be in the position of domination in the first place. By definition if you are dominating another group of your species you are the winner and they are the loser. Like it or not we are a part of nature. We aren't all that much different from the great apes or any other species.
