Good story on Christian Taylor, the triple jump gold medalist from this morning. Guy changes his takeoff leg after a knee injury. How in hell does one do that? Just think about it! Amazing.

the question is, would Ronnie, Dorian, Ramy look the same without heavy weights. I'm no so sure. i think there is a balance. you have to lift a certain amount of weight to cause muscle stimulation but without going past that limit where you just start destroying joints.Originally posted by M00chie69 View PostI was thinking the same thing. Lifting insanely heavy weights to build muscle - bro science. Also look at the average powerlifter. The sprinters look the best aesthetically. Marathon runners, the worst.

And here are the gymnasts:

Saw this yesterday. It would be so awesome to see an average person next to these athletes. Even the last place athlete in every event would blow the average joe away.

That was crazy. Fastest 15-16 yo American would win bronze in 1980. Wow. And fastest 8yo was 13.46 seconds! Nuts.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostUsain Bolt and the Fastest Men in the World Since 1896 – on the Same Track

Just a picture of health. Can really tell these weight lifters have spent many years training...Originally posted by Bouncer View PostSarah Robles Becomes First U.S. Weightlifter To Medal In 16 Years

These are not a United States of weightlifting. No woman had medaled in the event since 2000, and no male weightlifter has found the podium since 1984. So when Sarah Robles took bronze today with a combined lift of 286kg, it was a cause to celebrate.

1 million-gallon Olympic pool drained - CNN.com
So what caused the green water in the first place?
Nascimento says hydrogen peroxide may be to blame for the green coloring.
"On the day of the Opening Ceremonies of the Games, 80 liters of hydrogen peroxide was put in the water," he said. "This creates a reaction to the chlorine which neutralizes the ability of the chlorine to kill organics. This is not a problem for the health of anyone."
Even if it's not a health problem, Andrada said the incident an embarrassment for the organizers.
"We are hosting the Olympic Games," he said. "The world is here, the best athletes are here, so the water comes to be an issue."
