Scrum, you're debating with a white near baby boomer aged guy who grew up and lives in the deep south. Ripper probably had 90+% whites in his entire childhood classrooms. All of his teachers were probably white, he hasn't been around many people of color in his life most likely. It's clear his views will be different from yours.... like the comedian Bill Burr says, "what do you think he thinks?"

Think about his life experience and you'll see where he gets his views. They aren't right or wrong, but it's clear where they come from. We are all molded by our life experiences. If Ripper went on a 3 year trip around the world, backpacked, lived with poor Indians in Deli, hung out on the beach in Thailand and fished with the locals, spent time in the mountains in Tibet with the Buddhists, drank Ayahuasca in Peru with the local shaman's, protected innocent Mexican women from the cartel's in Mexico, went on a medical AIDS mission to an African village and volunteered in Haiti after the earthquake he would probably have a much much much different stance of some of this stuff you two are discussion, once again not right or wrong, just different.

Look at someone's life experience and then you'll be less surprised/appalled by their views and beliefs and vice versa (Same applies to you, you probably haven't spent much time with whites in the south so your view on them is most likely biased).

I am suggesting there are people here who are racist. I think most people are racist whether they admit it or not or even realize it or not. I think deep down most of us are inherently racist, some more than others but we all have it. People have been racist throughout human history, dating back what millions of years? I don't think it can be bred out of us overnight. Slavery ended less than 100 years ago.

I work with a lot of Indians and Muslims on H1-B visas here in Silicon Valley. I have a good idea what they think about me, even though they don't even know me. This is human nature.

I'm not talking about ripper specifically, I'm using him as an example of the type of people Scrum is profiling and I'd bet Ripper's childhood was mostly white experience regardless of where he grew up. Where did he grow up by the way?

The point stands though. I didn't grow up in the south either but my classrooms and teachers were 90+% white and my grandparents were racist, but I never held that against them because I know the environment and times they grew up in.
