Probably safe to say at some schools (not all) just like politics or business.. sometimes it's who you know. Not always the most qualified gets the job.

Betsey Devos comes to mind since we are kind of on the topic of education. She's not qualified to run kindercare..

Being an Asian male definitely doesn't help.

Obama got into Harvard and became the president of Harvard law school. The man is an absolute genius!

It's still difficult for me when Indian/Sri Lankan/Pakistani refer to themselves as Asian.

Berkley is 30k a year?!?! Jeesh that's insane! I wasted a year in one college and got an associate's in another and all 3 years combined was only a little over third of that 1 year expense from Berkley. Granted college names don't mean jack squat for my field.

Yep, Berkeley is roughly 30K per year for in state. It's like 50K for out of state. What I've learned during this process is that if you go out of state, it's about 40-50K or more regardless of whether you go public or private. The only real way to keep costs under control is in-state.

kinda sad. what i'm about to say is very obvious I know but the whole system is setup in such a way that people with money have a far greater chance of success. the only way a kid from the Ghetto is getting into UCLA is full scholarship athletics.

Just a reminder that most sane countries (most of Europe, for example) have free college. Can you imagine how awesome it would be if in-state tuition in public universities was zero?

That was Bernie's platform. He would have done so much good for the country.

you really think Bernie would have got that done. all the rich and powerful universitys would have road blacked that shit for a thousand miles.

UNFUNDED social security liability is almost 17 trillion dollars, UNFUNDED Medicare liability is almost 28 trillion. This is more money than the entire country's corporate AND small business assests combined. We can't afford our own future programs. What makes you think this country can add more to that? You guys just love spending other people's money and taking things away from people don't you?

Dude, do you know what our military spending is? It is over $600 BILLION dolllars a year. It is more than the next 8 countries combined!

How come guys like you NEVER question military spending? We are actively fighting in 8 countries. We have 800 fucking military bases in like 70 countries.

The estimate is that Bernie's proposal for abolishing college tuition in all community colleges and 4-year public colleges will cost about $75 billion. We can easily fund this considering how much money we piss away bombing countries all over the world.

Arguments like this make me sick. We need to STOP ALL FUCKING WARS abroad, cut our defense spending and pay to build our country and to pay for our kids to get a good education. We are the richest fucking country in the world, bar none. And we can't afford to pay for our future, in terms of infrastructure and education?

The fact that half our population has been conned into believing that that we can't afford it is the problem.

Are there schools anywhere in the world that are free AND of the same caliber as a school like Harvard or Caltech?

I ask because I'm interested, not because I'm trying to make an argument one way or another.

Oxford and Cambridge cost about $10K per year. Ridiculously cheap considering they are of the same level as MIT/Harvard/Caltech/Stanford, etc.

I'm not sure about the Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Normal Superior in Paris which are also excellent as is the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Lmao that is chump change. We're talking trillions here. Military is literally half the yearly cost of medicaid and medicaid is still under funded by 28 trillion. Trillion with a T!

Student loan debt is 1.5 trillion. 75 billion a year cost is a gross misunderestimate.
