clip and magazine does have a definite difference when talking about modern firearms or the difference between antique or historically accurate reproductions and modern ones. I am not bothered by it so much with the older generations, but individuals growing up within the time that no new firearms that use clips were produced kind of throws me off a little bit if they are acting like they know everything about guns. If they are just a shooter or hunter and not so much into some of the crazier stuff, It really doesnt bother me.
One thing that does piss me off is when people confuse extractors and ejectors.

I suggest you pay close attention to this old southern fella. He's been a professional shooter and competed in all kinds of gun competitions for over 40 years. He knows everything there is to know about pretty much every firearm on the planet.
"No, you are not a felon or a 2nd Class citizen if you call a "magazine" a "clip." It IS something you might as well get figured out, though, and correct if you want to have respect within the shooting community. It's just a fact, many will judge you as someone who doesn't know much about firearms if you call them "clips." I might still love you, but many won't."
It's only an 8 minute video. Watch it and learn something instead of arguing ignorance please.

i don't care. the 2 devices are completely different. "not caring" is not an excuse for incorrect terminology.Originally posted by Turbo3000 View PostI think his arguement is about the fact that no one really gave a fuck about clip vs magazine until people on the internet needed something to argue about. His grandfather used clips in the war, but I'm sure he just called all devices a clip as he continued on with life.
it's no different from the media calling GH a steroid and arguing "nobody cares about the terminology". that's just arguing ignorance.
i can understand moochy grandfather using the term because he actually used clips. but moochy using the term and acting like the difference is as simple as soda vs pop is absolutely wrong.

you won nothing. go to a site like midwayusa.com or cabellas and buy some "clips" for your semi auto hand guns. good luck.Originally posted by M00chie69 View PostSo since I won this clip/magazine debate you've shifted the topic back to "machine gun". Even savage referred to their magazines as clips decades ago even though by modern definition they are truly magazines. If anything this proves I'm a shooter and was raised by a true shooter, not the internet.
I don't own shoot AR/AK's but by definition they are semi-automatic so I'm right on there. I do understand that a machine gun is fully automatic by definition so I should not have used that full phrase. "semi-automatic rifle" is the term I should have used there.

clips were used in WW1 and WW2. that is the reason your grandfather uses the word clip. he most likely used an actual clip.
the guns you claim to have use magazines. not clips.
the terms are only interchangeable by people who don't understand the difference. you are basically using an argument of ignorance to justify your use of incorrect terminology. semi auto machine gun... lmfao.

I'm not an expert on these as I've never owned/shot one but I do understand them.

You are out of your element here Bouncer. You're too young to understand how these terms get confused. We all KNOW the modern definition and that's a distinct black and white definition, but it wasn't always this way.
It was the military that decided that a magazine was not a magazine. And a clip was a magazine. If you check back to the earliest use of magazine, you will find that it means a storage location or place. No where was spring being found in the definition. Magazine to describe something as you are using it did not happen until after the 1911 was made. And even then, it at times was still referred to as a clip by both Colt and the military. A ship's magazine has no springs in it but stored powder, projectiles, rounds, or rounds on/in clips. Detachable box magazine is a correct term but not because it has a spring in it. A US Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 will not function if you remove the op rod spring nor will it function if it is to be used as a semi-auto if it does not have a clip in it. Ammo in a clip does not require being loaded in a magazine to be fed to a firearm either. Think also about the Gatling Gun that had no spring in its stick magazines. And a rifle made in Europe that fed directly off of the clip and ejected the clip out the bottom when a new one was pushed in from the top.

Serious question: Do you really think if we ended Welfare you're tax burden would go down? You think that $25k would stay in your pocked if we ended Welfare?

You're just not getting it. I KNOW the difference, but still call magazines clips out of habit because that's how I was taught. Those of us who grew up shooting guns decades ago are more likely to refer to a magazine as a clip vs. some millennial who learned how to shoot on the internet. My Grandpa would laugh hysterically at this "debate".Originally posted by Bouncer View PostNo sorry. A magazine and a clip are 2 completely different things. Soda and pop mean the same thing.
Your grandfather probably calls a clip a clip because he actually used a clip. You need to understand the difference. They are not the same at all.
Please comment on the following which I took from the comments section of that article I posted above. Why does Savage, a firearm manufacturer not know the difference between a clip and a magazine? Hmmm
When I grew up many of the rifle manufactures called mags clips. Remember the Savage 110C, were the C stands for Clip. Some of the 22's were advertised as clip models as well as large rifles. Most of my youth I heard clip used more than magazine other than fixed magazines. I try us the modern terms, but don't really see were it makes much difference.
