She was born here. Who gives a shit that her ancestry happens to be Asian. Are you not proud when other americans win a medal? Just "Asian-americans"? Am I supposed to be pulling for French or German Americans since my ancestors immigrated from there? This is stupid and needs to be called out.

Yeah it's annoying to me. I got downvoted to shit on Reddit for calling this out. Seems like others didn't agree with my take.

I also saw this phenomenon when Yao Ming and Jeremy Lin were doing well in the NBA.

We are all fucking immigrants at some point in our ancestors history. So Dumb to think white people are somehow the owners of America and everyone else is an "immigrant".

The only reason I think people cling to their families past origins is because they’re either 1) first generation, child of immigrants who achieved something big and want to share how much hard work a parent had to do to get them to their successes or 2) grasping to their ancestry to set them apart from everyone else (like someone saying they’re 1/4 Italian and 1/4 German, etc.).

I’m a first generation myself but I hate saying I’m “Pakistani American” because Pakistanis are the worst.
