The gunman who opened fire at a California bar last night, killing 12 people, has been identified as 28-year-old Ian David Long.

The US Marine Corps veteran used a Glock 21 .45-calibre handgun with an extended magazine to carry out the mass shooting, officials say.

He is also believed to have deployed a smoke device during the attack in Thousand Oaks, leaving some revellers unable to see anything.

Hundreds of people - many, teenagers - were inside Borderline Bar & Grill when bullets started flying, leaving "blood everywhere".

At least a dozen people were killed - including a "hero" cop who was due to retire next year and died bravely trying to save others' lives.

The gunman was also killed, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said, adding that the department believes he took his own life.

yea that's fine chuck. meanwhile we have headlines almost every month from some mentally disturbed white fella shooting up a place.

why is the number of whites doing this so high? why do we not see blacks doing mass shootings like this. there are plenty of black shootings but we are talking about mass shootings. why is it overwhelmingly white people doing this? what is the link? why is it increasing and getting more common? firearms have always been easily accessible and available in the US but these shootings are increasing and they are almost always done by a mentally disturbed white guy. WHY?

People in poverty are concerned with getting by day to day. Only thought to use a gun would be to get some quick cash. People that aren't in poverty have other things on their minds. Day to day shit that shouldn't matter affects minds to a great degree. Look at the dumb reasons people commit suicide. First world problems. Well a suicidal person is just one step away from a homicidal person.

Every weekend mass shooting in Chicago...it's just not reported and paid attention to ..no difference in shooting up a club or a drive by with people standing and gathered in a yard or on a corner....white people just are better about grabbing headlines...you know...white privilege and all....
