How taking painkillers can destroy your stomach lining in days | Daily Mail Online

nsaid's damage the stomach in the very way they work. they lower a chemical in the body that causes inflammation but also happens to be the chemical that protects your stomach. many people believe that it's the NSAID itself that does the damage, its not, it's damage by proxy. so regardless of administration, any NSAID even in topical form can still cause stomach problems.

If its an nsaid yes. The way in which it works is by lowering what causes inflammation in the body. This also happens to be the same thing that protects the lining of the stomach. Has nothing to do with the pill itself sitting in your stomach which is what you seem to think. You have an image in your head of an ibuprofen tablet eating your stomach lining. Not the case at all.

In the long term it can cause stomach irritation by decreasing prostaglandins and stomach mucus production as well as limiting prostaglandin mediated blood flow to your kidneys. Not a huge deal in the shorter term but its not an indefinite thing. You need to take something like nexium to help counter and protect the gut from the damage.

I would also add that I think your a bit of a hypochondriac Mr I. Nsaids are very helpful and essential in healing early on. I think you read about the dangers and it becomes something major in your head.

It takes about 2 weeks of naproxen and I get bubble guts, liquid stool, and decreased appetite. Nexium and probiotics helped significantly.

One thing I've noticed while on all these meds is I can't remember the last time I got an election or even felt horny.

Yeah but regardless. All the nsaid s etc just sends the whole area to sleep. It's no big deal just something I noticed. I dint suppose the pain helps either

No, not regardless. Nsaid's do not effect libido or the ability to get an erection in any way whatsoever. This is either in your head or you have a hormonal issue, or its something else your taking. Nothing to do with NSAIDs
