I'm trying to figure out where the alcohol is beneficial. It's easy to get use too and once you do it's hard to get rid of. Also what do you compete in? Shows or lifting?

you jump to some wrong conclusions but they are yours to make if you wish.Originally posted by sana
lol - are you one of those "organic" people who freak out about every little thing you hear in the news.
i know you're in canada, but what's the statistic of people who've actually contracted vCJD?
aside from mercury from too much tuna consumption, what other types of contaminants are you scared of in fish?
you are missing out on quality protein by eliminating these from your diet b/c of "fears" of contamination and disease.
IMHO, you're giving into irrational fears.
that is why i said, that i don't worry about BSE. you misread my post if you think i said that i avoid beef due to the BSE scare.
as far your humble opinion, you seem to be unaware that people use that ( IMHO ) in the ironic sense when telling other people that the latter's opinion is in fact stupid while the former's is the correct choice. You have become judgmental, jumping to an etreme conclusion about me based upon one post. YOu are turning this into a personal issue for some reason. Something that I am eating has bothered you so much that you make personal comments.
i don't recall saying that i was scared of anything; i look at things from a risk benefit ratio. there are other sources of protein that are more convenient/ cheaper for me that don't have any level of risk of anything whatsoever.
the way you can look at it is that this leaves more fish for you.

the IMHO is personal only because i have said it is my opinion, and you're right - in my opinion, you are giving into irrational fears. how exactly does my opinion - equate a jump to extreme conclusions? whether it be judgemental or not - and in this case, it is because, a comment like "you are giving into irrational fears" IS in fact a judgement on you, but it is simply my opinion.Originally posted by MarcusMaximus

you are the one who said you would "sometimes" eat beef, but mentioning BSE leads me to the logical conclusion that you don't eat it as often as possible b/c of your (IN MY OPINION) irrational fear of disease.
and i asked you specifically, what contaminants are you afraid of in fish? aside from mercury - i don't see any. and you can avoid the mercury if you stay away from TOO much tuna (and albacore specifically) or TOO much salmon. i'm trying to draw out of you why you think fish is "SOOOO" bad?
you can take my comments however you want.
you said you were cutting - and yet you're consuming high quantities of dairy for your main protein source. there are better protein choices for cutting than dairy.

you seem to be even more judgemental in this one. i don't know why this has bothered you to such a degree. simple carbs? simple sugars?Originally posted by sana
if your bread is truely whole grain, it would be very dense and not soft - and it would be very "crumbly". read your ingredient listing, b/c you may find that it was made with enriched wheat flour, which is no better than enriched white flour.
as far as the "oat squares" that you posted - if it's the same as the stuff i see in supermarkets here - i would say that you're still better off eating oats.
i said simple carbs, not simple sugars. simple carbs come from enriched flour, come from fruits, and come from beer. all of which are from what i can tell from what was posted, in your diet.
i only made the comments i have in the light that you said you were cutting.
oat squares versus oatmeal- debatable.
we may simply be in disagreement to what is important in our food choices; you are interested in whole grains versus enriched whole or white flour and not very concerned about the beef/fish/poultry/pork indutrial practices whereas I am just the opposite. you seem to convery upon yourself the right to make light of mine whereas your choices don't concern or bother me in the least. for some unknown reasons, my posting of my diet, which differs significantly from yours it would seem, has unleashed a torrent of pent up issues surrounding food with you. each to his/her own. quite apart from Timma and Bouncer, whose responses seemed to come from a sincere interest to point out what seems to them to be errors, your posts appear to be something different.
But again, each person is different and you are allowed your own voice.

Beneficial.? none. I do enjoy going out, shooting pool, having a beer or while barbecuing, I'll have a beer on the rare Saturday that it ain't raining! Or having a glass of wine when dining out at the local pasta/pizza restaurants. This is such a small aspect of my overall diet that it still amazes me that some people pick up on it. Different perspectives; I spoke to a one person whose religion absolutely forbids alcohol; he said that i must be an alcoholic. I told another person the very same facts about my alcohol intake and everything was fine. The second person thought that i did too much exercise however so go figure.Originally posted by Shibby

easy to get used to? i know you aren't implying this but I'll say it; although every alcoholic started off drinking alcohol, not every person who drinks alcohol ends up being an alcoholic "

this is not personal, but you seem to be taking it personally because i am "picking apart" your diet. which i am.
the industrial practices of the meatpacking business i am aware of as i've read books on how horrible it is. but i fully cook my meats, i take care in how i prepare it and i do not give into fears of contaminants because if i did, i'd end up being an organic vegan.
you drink lots of milk, aren't you afraid of the industrial practices of the dairy industry? your argument makes no sense to me because you are saying on one hand that you are concerned with the effects of your health due to the practices of the meatpacking industry, yet you are okay with the practices of hormone induced dairy that comes from that industry? i'm trying to understand your argument here. at the same time, you are willing to eat chicken. if you're so aware of the conditions within the beef industry, you must know that chickens are raised in farms where they are essentially smashed together in little huts and are raised on feed from rendered beef and pork parts. and often, rendered chicken.
as far as the oat squares versus whole grain oats and whole grain versus enriched flour, i think this is a completely legitimate point that i'm bringing up to you. anyone on this board will tell you and repeat that if you are cutting - IF YOU ARE CUTTING WHICH IS WHAT YOU SAID YOU WERE DOING - the more complex the carb, the better. isn't this a basic tenent of nutrition? i'm only pointing out to you areas where you can change up your diet to achieve better results. if you don't want the comments - then why post it in the open?
truth be told, at this point, i'm quite amused. i have not come off as hostile - which i can very easily. i've only raised points for discussion and debate. and you're not debating. you're effectively crying to the board that i'm attacking your diet in a non-contructive manner - which is FAR from the truth.

Dude, can you not see that she is trying to help you? She is trying to get you to see the flaws in your diet. Sana has forgotten more about diet and nutrition than you or I will ever know. Take the time to read into the posts and what she has pointed out to you. You're not being attacked, you're trying to be helped.

I'm not saying alcoholic. Hell I don't know if you attend meetings, you could just be a drunk. J/K. But any amount of alcohol/vice is hard to give up. Some more than others. But alcohol changes the state of mind and don't go assume I'm saying you drink uncontrolably. Just any amount has effect on mood, but so then does sugar (or what every you like) as a comfort food.Originally posted by MarcusMaximus

Marcus I have to agree with sana
if you are trying to cut there are pretty stead fast rules on what works the best and what doesn't if you want to stick with a less effecient diet then do so but she is just trying to point out what will work better for you. and I don't find any personal attacks so far.

1.Cheese and milk as your main protein source for breakfast huh? In the morning your body wants protein and carbs ASAP, your current breakfast is not supplying it with that.Originally posted by MarcusMaximus
i have approx 30 grams protein within 1/2 hour of waking up.
i usually have 1/2 can evap milk with my coffee and another 375 ml milk with my cereal .
each slice of cheese supplies about 5 grams usabl protein; i am having 6 slices on my sandwich; there's another 30
the postworkout meal is chicken rice and salsa. It is about 150-200 grams of chicken so i am getting approx 30 grams protein for that particular meal.
the evening meal- watermelon yogurt and cottage cheese supplies at least 40 grams of protein as it's 1/3 - 1/2 of the 375 gram container of cottage cheese
as always, i appreciate everyone's input.
2. Again your not having any type of carb post workout. Do you know what muscle glycogen is? You need to replace it. It would make sence to have the watermellon post workout.
3. Your having simple sugars in the evening ie, (Watermellon, coke) when your body is most likely to store them as fat.
You can debate all you want and go on with your blithering but the bottom line here is your diet is ass backwards and I would bet any amount of money that if you changed it around you would see dramatic results. But I dont think that is going to happen. Seems to me your the kind of person that knows everything and cant take someone telling you that your wrong.
