If you are SLOWING digestion, that means your body has MORE TIME to absorb the nutrients you are giving it. So, that's what you want. Why would you want to eat all those calories, and not have them used in your body?

I was advocate for whole foods vs shakes back int he BB days, and even more so now that I am performance based.
I still enjoy a good smoothie with ON whey/flax/berries though

Im not trying to fight anything im just trying to understand it.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postredback you are trying to fight something simply because you want to use shakes instead of full meals. real food meals are superior, end of story.
and no, you never want to slow your metabolism. you simply need to eat more cals then your body is burning.

This seems ok if you are cutting, but if i was bulking wouldnt i want to SLOW my metabolism. ?Originally posted by fog_hat1981 View PostThat's the whole point bro - you want your body to use energy digesting food - this is the mechanism that boosts your metabolism and facilitates lean muscle mass/fat loss - that alone is what makes whole food meals superior to shakes IMO...

Ok but why am i trying to feel full longer? Im trying to eat more, im not really worried about staying full longer and SLOWING digestion if my goal is to eat as much as possible throughout the day.Originally posted by redsquirrel View PostBECAUSE: when most people eat whey shakes, they just drink the shake down and wait for their next meal. In order NOT to feel hungry an hour later, you need some fats or some carbs taken in with it to SLOW the digestion. Which then leads to you feeling fuller longer.
Whole food meals are always better than shakes. But when people need the extra protein & cals, or are on the run, they add the shakes.
The reason you feel hungry soon after is because you need to add some fats OR carbs. Eat your shake w/ a rice cake & natty PB or 1/4c of nuts and see what happens

How can that be?

Which is where I take the route that I *think* the GI of certain foods change based upon the consistency in which they're eaten/digested...Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postyou are forgetting the fact that our bodies are designed to break down foods. when you take that part away there is definitely a difference. i know exactly what fog is saying. i still use shakes in my meal plan but there is certainly a difference in the way i feel after a shake with oatmeal, PB, etc.. the stomach fills up and you feel slightly bloated but somehow not as satisfied or full compared to a whole food meal.
Just like you preach that sugars kill the goals of your diet (because you want consistent blood sugar levels) the same holds true for the GI indexes of what you eat....

That's the whole point bro - you want your body to use energy digesting food - this is the mechanism that boosts your metabolism and facilitates lean muscle mass/fat loss - that alone is what makes whole food meals superior to shakes IMO...Originally posted by redback View PostI just have a hard time believing solid meals are really that much better.I was always told that , but i cant find a convincing argument. The reason solid meals fill you up longer is because your body is still burning energy trying to digest what you have just eaten. Your body doesnt have to work as hard to break it down with a shake. I cant see how a solid meal with the exact same ingredients can be superior to a shake which will break down faster and be absorbed faster.
