  • Training 6 days a week?

I love going to the gym and training. I train 5 days a week, and am now considering 6 days a week.

My 5 day a week plan consists of:
    Chest/abs
    arms/calves
    shoulders/abs
    back/calves
    legs/abs

If I add another day Im thinking I will train either arms or chest.

Is this way to much time in the gym?

    Thanks,

Unless you're on lots of gear and have superior genetics, you'll probably overtrain on that split (the five day one, six days is out of the qustion). Are you training for fun or to build muscle? If you want to build muscle stick with a basic push/pull/legs routine centered around heavy compound movements. If you insist you could do a split where you train arms or shoulders on their own day, but you have to be carefull how you set it up. That split you have is a disaster. Do you bench on chest day? I assume so, which means you're hitting triceps two days in a row. There's other conflicts with that split too, but you get the idea. Hit it hard and then rest and eat. Don't go to the gym every day and half-ass it. Good luck bro....

easy to overtrain unless you have superior genetics.

3 days a week is plenty for 85% of the population. read up on stress physiology to understand why. gear doesn't stop overtraining....its masks the signs.

I used to do 6 days when I split my hams and calves from the quads. It's just too much though.

i am getting ready to start 6 day routine soon --

                    i like a split like this -

                    chest/traps/abs - cardio
                    quads/hams/calves
                    off
                    back/rear delts/abs -
                    shoulders/calves/abs
                    tris/hams/- cardio
                    bis/abs/calves - cardio

my cardio i do 45 minute sessions right now -- i am working on my weak points before my next show - those are abs, hams, calves

I train 6 days a week. I think the key factor is the intensity of the workout and the number of reps (amount of work) you are putting a muscle group through.

                      I have 6 on 1 off rotation.

                      1- chest / bi's / abs
                      2- back / calves
                      3 - quads / hams / abs
                      4 - shoulders / tri's / calves
                      5 - chest / bi's / abs
                      6 - back / shoulders

I work around day care hours at the gym so Sundays are out for me. 6'1" @ 290. Two cycles, lifetime. ~13-14% BF.

I train intensly for about 1 hour 15 minutes per day usually 15 sets (8-12 reps) per body part amongst various exercises.

I thought 96 hours is more than enough time for any muscle group to recover. Am I missing something here?

You must have amazing genetics. The vast majority of people would not gain any muscle on that split.

I would say 4 would be fine..maximum 5. Six days is bad medicine in my opinion.
