I am not trying to be a wise-ass but I have always kinda seen a type of hypocrisy with vegetarianism and would like to hear your side of this. For example, When you say, "Basically, I don't want to kill another living thing in order that I live." Are plant not living things? Do they not produce a type of offspring? I know they do not do things in the same sense as animals or humans but they still "live". They have done studies that show plants feel pain even though on quite a super-sensitive level.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostI've always been vegetarian, bro. I was born in the Hindu religion and one of the tenets of the religion is ahimsa, which is Sanskrit for "do no harm." Basically, I don't want to kill another living thing in order that I live. I am not religious by any means - don't really believe in God in the traditional sense, but ahimsa is a philosophy that I like and have lived by it all my life.

You are right and I was expecting somebody to point this out. :)
There is a religion in India called Jainism which is an offshoot of Hinduism. The Jains, as the practitioners of this religion are called, are a lot stricter about their beliefs than the Hindus. The Jains do not eat any roots or tubers - basically nothing that requires you to uproot the plant and thereby kill it. So, no potatoes, ginger, onions, etc. They only eat leaves and fruits, i.e. stuff that can be harvested without killing the plants.
I am not quite there......

That is very strict. I understand if you want to live a healthy life this way is correct, but in terms of bodybuilding this is pointless.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostYou are right and I was expecting somebody to point this out. :)

There are hundreds of these kinds of groups - basically some "saint" or religious sect leader. People are free to follow whatever they want, but I don't venerate any human beings as saints or even gods. I just live my life in accordance to some aspects of Hinduism and Buddhism that make sense to me - no need for me to bring god or the devil or whatever into the picture...:D
Sorry Konitz for taking your thread off topic...

We are still discussing goals; I don't think I have ever seen a thread stay on topic in a forum ever.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostThere are hundreds of these kinds of groups - basically some "saint" or religious sect leader. MY goal is to set the unequipped American squat record at the USA Nationals in June at 208 lbs body weight or less. I also want to increase my lift coefficient over 8.0 by the regional meet in Sept this year. I wanted to compete in the nationals at 198 lbs but I think I have gained to much muscle to cut that far and maintain the power. I don't really care about body weight as long as it's lean body mass and I get the strength to go with it.
