Its always been something I have wanted to do. She was the only thing holding me back. I looked into it about 2 years ago went through the interviews etc just she lost her mind when I told her so I decided against it.

Thanks for the advice ripper going to start the runs tonight and see how I go.

Cheers bro. Will be a awesome experience to change the way I train completely. Sad at the same time but it wont be hard to get size back whenever I decide to.

Good for you bro. Do what makes you happy. Im sure the feeling of serving your country is good. You'll lose a little size but muscle has memory. When do you begin basic training?

How do they feed you in basic? In the US I understand they get to eat 3 calorie dense meals per day.

Henry, you don't need to be at 5 min per mile when you enter basic training. 5 min per mile is a benchmark for elite troops, special ops, etc. IF you work at it, you'll get there too, no reason why you cannot. Being at 9 min/mile right now is commendable, assuming you ran 2 or 3 miles and not just one... I bet 90% of the population out there couldn't break 12 min per mile if they tried.

Don't go out and try to lower your times. Try to run 3 or 4 miles without getting gassed. You have to focus on getting to where you can run distance wtihout getting tired. Do this 3 or 4 times a week. Then once a week, do a tempo run, which is running a certain distance at a certain constant speed. For this you may wand to do some research and figure our what distance the Aus army uses for their training benchmarks and then run that at a given speed, say 9 min per mile. Then, GRADUALLY INCREASE YOUR SPEED!!! For example, one week in your tempo run, you may run say 1.5 miles at 9 min/mile, then the next week try to do this in 8:45, etc. This is very important. The surest way to getting hurt is to try to run too fast too soon. For a bigger guy starting to run, getting hurt is your biggest worry, not your mile time.

Also, go to a running store and get fitted for good shoes. Find a store that has a computerized treadmill that can analyze your foot strike pattern. You may pay more, but it's a one time deal. After you know your foot type, you can find shoes wherever you want. Pretty obvious, but regular gym shoes won't do.

Having said that anyone who at least has the balls to try deserves the respect of doing it. And for those who dont..enjoy the freedoms they sacrifice for your liberties.... and THAT should not be taken lightly by anyone.

Our military hasn't fought for our freedoms since ww2. Every war since then has been old men sending young men off to die for political and financial gain. I would fight for a reason it but it damn sure isn't for some rich fat old fuck in Washington.

Understand what was going on during ww2 and you will understand why we needed to be in that fight. And yes we were attacked on home soil during WW2
