I had L5/S1 issues and this fixed my sciatica. Not all specialists conduct this kind of procedure. It is relatively new. It did wonders for me though. Its extremely noninvasive outpatient procedure and i was on my feet the next day doing fine. look it up, not sure if it would help your specific situation...but it really changed my life.
So you herniated S1 L5 but it didn't herniated into nerves so bad to cut any off just numbness. S1 L5 is a small disk.

Herniated disks will eventually self heal and so long as they dont fragment off its not neccessary to operate. So you took the cortisone shot after this? That took the pain away while the area self healed.

It caused some nerve issues in my right leg. Not so much numbmess, more so sharp stinging pains like I was getting stabbed from my ass to my foot. They tried doing a nerve block before my surgery which was relatively ineffective as well. At other times though my leg would give out on me and my leg would be really weak..

      • I'm pretty clued up on bodybuilding but decided to get a guy I know in board for some specialist training. We worked on band hip thrusts to get the left side glute and ham especially activated but generally tge gluten overall as they've been inactive for so long. Then did a bunch of floor excercises for the core. Finished off with some all over body power movements, floor press with legs raised and laid back rope pullovers

Well I had to drop out the last set as I tasted puke ha

So that was a good part to my day.

Sadly I went to the physio and my tibialis anterior is still completely dead but it's ok ill take that over the pain anyday

        • So today's workout;

          Stood up band hip thrusts
          Stood up band rows
Band up in front to arms up vertical above head band raises
          Band under foot side raises
          Upright rows bands
Pull back elbows up high for rear felt bands
Finished off with light dumbell presses onky going to 660lb

Note: this completely shields the low back area I'm healing

          Felt great, really burned

          • Today's

Lateral cable cross two hand hold out in front, 4 sets 30 seconds each with increasing weight. Fight the twist.

Floor press flat bench, worked up to 350 lb then a burnout

Seated upright hammer row pull and hold squeeze no body movement chest support padded.

That's it. Strength is increasing and to top it I now have a flicker in the shin muscle when I try and lift my toes up and less numbness in the lower leg and foot

            Something is happening

            • It's tough but very real starting from the bottom up. But I love these times of solitude and mindfulness so ill take the odd snap. Long Road ahead but I love it

                • I'm impressed by the way you've handled all this mentally. Great attitude through the whole thing.

                  • Well today I did my first regular workout. Chest and biceps.

I'll be mixing in some lumbar work alongside and training light but apart from the foot drop (slightly improved), and of course being careful with low back. I'm basically back to a normalish routine

More tibialis anterior engagement, probably about 2 mm more movement dorsoflexion
