no I don't dispute that but its more of a problem when we have terrible terrible drivers on the road. Yes most everyone has a horror story about hearing about a bad accident or was in one personally. but it has been blown way out of proportion. just another way for the government to spend our hard earned money IMO. we have a licseneing procedure that basically give anyone a free ticket to drive a 2 thousand pound killing machine whether drunk or not. It has become a "right" instead a priviledge to drive. everyone thinks they are entitled to drive and the only reason they do is because the government gets a shitload of money from the DMV. but yes as in everything there are a few dumbasses who do stupid shit. but if I have a few drinks I shouldn't worry about getting jammed up for a DUI on the way home.

True but everyone feels there tolerance level is higher than it is. And even if you can act more normal than the next while having more drinks, dosn't mean your a safer driver than the next.

you have as much of that entitlement attitude then as everyone else. it IS a privilage to drive and actions such as these are what makes irresponsible drivers.

you just made the point - you're driving a 2000lb killing machine - and you're willing to risk your own life and others b/c you feel like you have a right to drive even when you're impaired??

I honestly believe it all goes back to their upbringing! How they were raised, regardless of race, contributes to how they will act as they get older! I was brought up to be respectful of other people regardless of race, and I do as long as they show respect back! I was brought up to work hard to get what I want, I do! If values and ethics aren't taught to you as a child then how in the hell do you have them later in life? My role model was my father, God rest his soul, and he raised me to believe that I can have anything I want as long as I am willing to work for it! Remember I am half Puerto Rican and I was brought up to believe I am just the same as everyone else, what I do with my life sets me apart from everyone else! Which brings me to my point....

This black man in the wife beater outside on the phone had his values instilled in him years ago! He may have been talking on the phone outside because he may have been talking to his mistress...who knows? The way anyone talks or acts in society is because of that is what the learned in their youth! I see so many kids around here and I see how they want to be like there moms or dads! They walk like them or talk like them! Dress like them! We have one Italian family that comes in and the dad has a collection of gold chains around his neck and the little boy that is about 3 years old has like 3 or 4 gold chains on! WTF?

Anyway I believe how people are raised in this world has alot to do with how they will act later in life...regardless of race!

I do see your point, SC. WHat they should do for drunk drivers is send them to jail and not pay a fine. Or just take away their license. But another thing is that the money you pay for tickets isn't going to the federal gov't. It goes to the state and local authorities to pay for the other protection the police serve. Yes they don't really need the money but it's not going into anyone's pocket.

I guess then I am disputing the amount of impairment in the human. my contention is that drunk driving accidents are more a result of the state of mind of the driver and what level of consciouness he is bringing to the task in front of him. This is kind of like abortion though, no one will budge usually when I bring it up. :) No problem though, just venting some feelings.

Here in Florida, depending on if it is your first or second or whatever number of DUI they will take your license, you will pay a fine and you will do jail time if it is not your first DUI!

I feel like I should erase the state I'm from before posting on this sub, but I'll say this anyway:
I never really had black friends growing up b/c there just weren't any in my city. We had 2 black ppl at the school where I went and they both dropped out when they were 16. They weren't ever troublemakers, but definitely underachievers. Now being in college, I'm exposed to much more ethnicity and can see the obvious difference between our races. As far as crime goes, as far as I care to speak is personal experience in retail. At the store where I work, you wanna know what one of the #1 stolen things is? Black women's haircare products. We had to recently begin putting security tags on these items b/c they were being stolen at such a high rate. This caused an uproar in the town b/c we live in Alabama and we're racist.... We're not racist, we just don't like things being stolen and it makes alot more sense to put security tags on the items being stolen rather than installing more and more cameras and spending unnecessary funds. Another thing I've noticed of black people is their rudeness when in public settings. I can't count how many times I've been in line for a movie or an amusement park ride and been literally walked right past by a black family. It's as if I wasn't there or they were entitled to go ahead of me. One certain instance, they even called their friends up to get in front of me too. They're also quite loud by nature... even in very nice restaurants. I want to stress that it's not only black people that do these things, but I do feel like they do these things more often.
IMO the thing that is holding black people back is the fact that they feel discriminated against. I see very little discrimination in our world today as far as race goes. If there was alot of racism, I don't think that our highest paid athletes would all be black. I think this theory should be dismissed. Let's clean slate start over and everyone be equal.

If we could all just be Americans and not attach words like African, Latin, Hispanic, and Asian to it, I think we would all be a little better off.

Something has to be done within the black community because they are regressing at a rate that is scary.
Some say there are more blacks in prison because of racism but I believe there are more blacks in prison because they commit more crime- pretty simple. It is very easy for blacks to underachieve- all they have to do is blame white folks for their problems, which is easier than working and being ambitious. When a black person does become sucessful, other blacks accuse them of acting white, then he has to move to a white neighborhood to keep from being robbed and killed. Why is it that a handful of Asians can move into a black neighborhood and within a few years they will own everything? It really pisses me off when they talk about discrimination when at my workplace blacks are practically begged to take some of the higher paying jobs, whether they are qualified or not. There are many, many blacks who do have their shit together, but as a whole they have some real issues. I have friends from South Africa who have a saying that " Everywhere that the blacks walk, the grass dies".

Most of the US have come from this. African-Americans are from tribes in Africa and were brought over to the US to be slaves. They have been in the US and "white" civilization for a little over 200 years. Once slavery was abolished in the US, these people didn't have any rights. They couldn't get educated, they couldn't vote, they couldn't get ahead at all. This was all in the last 50 years that they finally were considered equal by law, but still not equal by the people of the US.

I would imagine that in the next 100 years this will all start to change.
racism at its finest. let me tell you something sweetie, the chineese were writing journals and diaries while europeans were still swinging from trees. are the chinese better off than we are here in the states? do you consider the chineese to be more civilized than the US?

i wont comment on the other issues because i don't have the answers, nor will i pretend to.

yeah...my uncle was killed by a drunk driver that recieved a slap on the wrist from the justice system. we were all waiting for him to come home from the navy on thanksgiving when we got the call. he was killed and 3 others were severely wounded...the driver recieved a sentence of 3 years in jail and 2 years probation for needlessly taking the life of a bright, young member of my family. you're right, what a scam that was.

                              I live.

I live in a town in NJ that has a VERY wide range of people drawn to the local public school system. There are people that live in multi-million dollar houses, and people that live in shacks..

I went to the public high school in my area, which most people did because it has a wonderful reputation. As I walked through the school on my first day, I was shcoked at how "white" it was. I saw some black kids, but mostly down the halls from me, never right around me (which was good, at the time, I was terrified of black people)..

I later found out that the school is almost totally segregated by class level. All honors and college prep kids were in certain wings for most of the day. I would see maybe 5 black people my whole day in classes (when I say black, I really should be saying minority, other then Asian)..

Then I went to gym class.. What a fucking disaster.. It was ghetto like nothing I have ever seen before in my life. People were wearing sweats that were down around their knees, skull caps, etc.. It was just horriable.. I will never forget how scared I was the first few days in there, and with very good reason. You got a 10 day suspension at my school for fighting, regardless if you started it or not.. And many, many, times it would be a "dare" among the lower class kids to get an "honors" kid thrown out of school by beating them up.. I eventually started playing sports, which also were mostly white, and got the hell out of that gym.

I never really had any expereiences with blacks again until recently when I joined the gym in my home town again. I have actually made a few black friends for the first time in my life. It seems that the black guys who go to my gym are very disiplined, and have much more "white" values then I remember any having in high school.. Its been very refreshing for me to finally not be scared of blacks all the time anymore.

However, a few months ago, I was in a convenience store late at night on the wrong side of Camden; standing in line with a friend, not saying a word.. A group of black guys was standing behind us. One of them must have been pissed that 2 white guys were in his neighborhood, and cocked back and snuck me from the rear.. Split my lip open nicely, and then ran out the door before I could do anything about it. Its the shit like that that will forever scar minority races.. I am sure it happens white on white too.. But I have NEVER heard of it.. And I hear of blacks just taking a shot at a white guy pretty frequently. Its just bullshit, and shows a real lack of self-control and upbringing..

Anyway.. These are just some of my experiences.. I would have to say I am always wary around blacks now, until I get to know them well enough to make a determination not based on skin color.

Oh.. One last thing.. Just to start this conversation, what do you all think of the white people who choose to live the black lifestyle? That, honestly, is just such a waste to me.. I can't explain how stupid some of these formerly preppy white kids look dressed like gangstas.. Such a shame, because they are just trying to put themselves into a minority group that has very little opprotuntity to move up in the world..

I'm going to agree on this. I can honestly saw that I don't know a single african american that i am aware of. I do however know some black american's. This goes for the latin community as well. While I dated a hispanic girl I opened my eyes to some new things. You notice how many people are called Mexican when they were born in the same damn hospital as yourself, yet you're American. Maybe I'm being too technical, but I don't think I'm wrong.
