Shibby - since Civic is gone I guess I can legally hijack this thread.Originally posted by ShibbyNot to get into a politica debate, but I just call them accepted cults.
I went to a lecture on Buddhism last week (just the meditative type - which I found intriguing - the whole mind over matter thing) and I am currently studying World Religions. Are there ANY religions that you do agree with or could see yourself conforming to? Not all of them have to do with gods/goddesses etc...

The top 5 religions of the world have not always been so dominant and they are proved to be mere "beliefs" almost daily with the help of science. However, there are things out there that can be viewed as religions but they are not what you might be thinking of when you are thinking of the twisted Christian viewpoints that many people have.Originally posted by ShibbyProbably not. It's a matter of believing so much in the facts of science than the faith of the unknown. I also don't know much about other religions than christianity.
Either way, I was raised one way and refuse to go back to that. I don't have much "faith" as I look for the facts in everything. Fortunately, I am finding that I am not the only one on this mission to find answers.
As for science, I am sure I could bore you to death with the origins of our Solar System, the vastness of the Universe and the ever increasing odds of finding life on other planets due to current information we have acquired (which isn't even a drop of water in the oceans in comparison to what potential lies ahead).

My dad went to seminary school, he was a Baptist preacher for a while and then became a Non-Denominational Christian Counselor. The rest of my family was basically the same - Baptist - though it varied a little. Family members (even very extended ones) who did not behave in accordance to Christian principles were left out to dry. Most of them were severe hypocrites that couldn't see their own issues because they were too busy judging everyone else.Originally posted by ShibbyWhat were you raised and what's an example of a "viewed as religions but they are not what you might be thinking of when you are thinking of the twisted Christian viewpoints that many people have.'
I played around with the idea of Jehovah's Witnesses religion for a while (everyone shut up if there is nothing nice to say :D), looked into other Christian practices (Methodist etc), tried simple meditation and other things of that nature. I pretty much decided that none of these types of things were something I felt like being involved with.
So, up until I started studying present and past World Religions, I found that I was just much happier being me and not worrying about things like this. However, some of the practices I have been studying have interested me. I will go into details when my eyes aren't half shut (these early morning cardio sessions are killing me).

I like to talk religion also. It's one of those things that I can't relate with. Even though I was raised christian (Luthren) and probably was affraid to openly talk about my disbelief in god for a long time, I don't think I ever really belived in it.Last edited by Shibby; 03-29-06, 01:33 AM.

If one of those people came up to me in the gym and asked how devoted I am to jesus and what not. I would scream real loud, JESUS HAS GIVEN ME THE POWER!! then I would pick up a 130lb DB and hurl it across the gym. i would walk up to him and say, "you dare question my devotion??
if that dosent send the little shit on his way, then i would just kick him in his ass. :P
