I just saw this video of a soldier picking up a dog and throwing it off a cliff

So soldiers and Marines not only have to worry about dying, missing their family, not eating hot food, sleeping in the sand, watching their friends die. They have to make sure they are outstanding citizens??
Yes. That's the job. Maybe not outstanding citizens, but at least not criminals.

No doubt soldiers have a tough job, no argument there. Should their tough job excuse them from behaving like decent human beings? No. That's all I'm talking about, being a decent human being. If being a soldier robs one of all human decency, then maybe we need to have better psychological screening tests before we let people in. Maybe the military might like to go back to that best of the best thing.

They have to make sure they are outstanding citizens?? Now, I agree that throwing a dog off a cliff is wrong! But walk a mile in their shoes before you start setting "standards" for them to life by. They are in a place were they are hated and not wanted and they are told that everyday by the people of that country. All that shit gets at you after awhile. And to top it all off you have to worry about offending the people back home sitting on their asses watching youtube?? Im not justifying what he did but people have to remember these guys are human and they see some pretty inhuman things. Its hard to be all nice a sweet to a puppy then stick a knife in someones face. Its easier to stay in one mode but I dont expect anyone that hasnt been though it to understand...
Yes they have it tough and yes their life is on the line but no, they cannot go around acting like some group of African Rebels with machetes acting like fucking animals. You are a United States Marine, one of the most respected fighting forces on this earth, you are supposed to conduct yourself as such.

and lets not forget, it is every Marines choice to be there. they were not forced to be a Marine. if you cant act like a respectable soldier then you shouldnt have joined the United States Marine Corps. Maybe thats acceptable in the Mexican Army or some other 3rd world country but not fucking here.

Yeah I agree but when people see that video the first thing they say is what a embrassment and he should be put in jail and all that. They never say that guy must be having it rough over there and maybe he needs help or maybe he just missed the birth of a child and he is cracking up. You know what I am trying to say. And Im not just talking about the dog thing.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. He could ignore the puppy no matter if it's dead or alive. To be that unstable an inhumane is a dangerous person. You can't trust what he will do next. The last thing any soldier needs over there is a loose cannon who's next stunt might just get them shot at or killed.

And yes it is an embarrassment. I'm sure you have heard some sort of phrase that refers to one person spoiling it for the rest. Not everyone gets exposed to all sides of America. I have known student athletes from other countries that seriously thought that most Americans acted like what was portrayed in some movie.

I think it's a great point that soldiers aren't properly supported from a mental health standpoint. That's no excuse though.
