I have to say- this is the worst thing

Taking your baby to get their shots! I literally cried today. The shriek they let out is just so freaking awful!!! Why don't the Dr's offices put like a topical number on the skin prior to giving them the shot??

The worst part- they get FOUR- two in each leg!! WTF!? Two nurses give one in each leg twice- I mean, that's freaking child abuse if you ask me...and why do they have to use such a long fucking needle? Why can't they mix all of the vaccines into one syringe? It's all going into the same area of the muscle.

It is the most heartbreaking cry EVER...and I have to do this 3 more times over the next 8 months. :noo:

awww! i hear you in a more sisterly way. i'm about 10 years older than my sister and i remember her writhing in pain. the worst is that the pain stays there for a while and the area is sensitive for the baby. but it's okay, once you get to child 3 or 4, i hear the heartache for you goes away. :P

Yeah, then they get a big knot in the spot. When my son was about 18 months they had to draw some blood. I thought they would just prick his toe or something. They put that rubberband around his arm and I said "Woah, What are you doing?!?!?" I was never so nervous in my life. He did very well thankfully he didnt even cry. But seeing your kids in any kind of pain or even just being sick is the worse forsure!

Ouch...talk about screaming in pain...I had mine out when I was 10, and it still wasn't pretty.

I just don't get why they don't rub some type of number on her before they stick her, OR- at least put it all in one syringe...poor baby. I just talked to my husband, and he said she's cranky & not eating all of her bottle... :disagree:

I know some vaccines can't be mixed or something like that in the syringe. Then the amounts they need they would have to go with a larger syringe making it harder to push the medicine is. As for the topical anesthetic, no one really knows what their babies are allergic to for a while and some things are more of a sensitivity than and allergy. So it's a lesser of two evils thing. I don't know if they warned you, but for the 6 month shot you can give her .4 ml of infant Tylenol about an hour before the shots (talk to your pedi of course) so that the inflammation and soreness is reduced.

Right, I had mine out when I was 26. I remember how much it sucked, but at least I knew what was going on. I the hardest part about the shots or anything like that is them not understanding what's going on and they look to you for safety. My son after his tonsillectomy was really confused because they had an extra line hooked up to monitor his blood post-op because of his von Willebrands. He had to keep an IV line in the whole time he was in the hospital and got so scared when the nurse had to come do something. It didn't even hurt him, he just didn't understand.

try watching your 2 year old being pumped with morphine before heart surgery - something i will never forget is my fucking daughter looking to me for help when the fucking nurse couldnt find a vein -- shes screaming for help i wanted to kill everyone in that room that day


she didnt understand what was happening - they pulled me out of the room because i was going to throw the nurse through the window !!! doctor later tells me that he was sorry i had to see that .

i told him i guess its alright when the parents arent there then -- still angers me to this day -- the fucking arrogance

Yes, they told me..I gave it to her before we left, but I swear she screamed louder & longer this time. She was so upset & crying to hard, she couldn't catch her breath.

Exactly- just like when we had to put our Rott to sleep this past winter. You know what's coming, but they have no idea.

I can relate to being pissed at the doctors. I was allowed to go with him all the way into the operating room until them put him to sleep. The thing is when they put that mask on him he started frailing from side to side to kind of get away from it. I tried so hard to calm him and finally the doctors said "oh sorry we forgot to warn you about that. It's a natural reaction and he was technically already asleep and his body was just responding". I wanted to punch him in is mouth right there, but he had work to do on one of the most important things to me. He's was lucky I needed him.

You'll be there, it will be tough. You think it's a bad feeling to think that they are wondering why you aren't protecting them. Imagine the feeling of them wondering where you were at all and them being all alone...
