It's just a sight that will make you feel overwhelmed with empathetic emotion. A really weak dry cough mixed with a cry, an IV in his harm, a pulse ox on his finger and him curled up next to you trying to take everything off, but you know he has to keep it on because it's best for him.

I read this yesterday and today I actually got a bloodwork and I brought it up and the nurse said she had to move out of the hospital she was at (working w/young children) because she couldn't take it, I guess it's a crapshoot.. I cannot immagine being a parent and having a child go thru what I've read and what the nurse told me today, I would rip anyones fucking head off if they touched a love one in arrogance when they have sworn to help patients well being.

Let's think about this though. I'm sure it makes us feel good for a moment to think of how we'd rip someone's head off or punch them in the face or throw them out the window because of their PERCEIVED arrogance and insensitivity when it comes to pain inflicted on our children, but have we all lost perspective here? Isn't it even more arrogant to think that you have the right to make that judgment of them even as a parent? Think about it. How can doctors or nurses who see dozens of children on a daily basis possibly expend the emotional support you all seem to need? They'd burn themselves out in a matter of months. They MUST remain emotionally detatched if they're to maintain their sanity and do their job well. Would you rather have a nurse who's an emotional wreck or one who controls themselves? The truth is that they're not hurting your children. I'm sorry that sounds calous, but let's keep a level head. Would you rather your child feel the pain of a needle or the pain of an infection/disease that would likely kill them? Protecting your children and freaking out when they feel the slightest pain are not the same things by a long shot. It must be heartwrenching, but as some of you have already experienced, it's just what comes with being a parent. There's no need to entertain the idea of threatening someone because we can't keep our emotions in check. I'm just saying.

                Agreed.

I have two babies myself. While it is tough to watch them go through ANY type of pain at ANY time, it's just one of those things as a parent you HAVE to deal with.

Great post bro and I am sure we all feel the same way. I think "most" were saying they felt like doing these thing but they didnt or wouldnt. Like you said if that was me and my kid was screaming what good would it do to smash the doctor that can fix the problem.

I think we are all on the same page just this is what they feel inside.

Yeah, I mean my only main point was why they couldn't use just one syringe for all 4 shots, or at least use a topical to numb the skin. I wasn't objecting to giving them the vaccines, just objecting to the several she has to get all at one time. I had no ill will towards the nurses doing it, just looking for a less painful solution.

I am NOT one of those parents who are refusing to have their child vaccinated, just looking to ease the pain, that's all.

NO not the doctors that one nurse that was screwing up.

Finding a vein in a young child is EXTREMELY difficult, when you're there stabbing the patient a dozen times, it won't help.

They have people that are trained in finding the veins in children. Happened to me when i was young. Everytime I gave blood, they never found a vein. I kept getting stabbed and stabbed.

Keeping control of your emotions is way easier said than done when it comes to your kids. The fact that an incident didn't happen shows the restraint that was there. Mistakes happen all the time and its my job (each parents job) to be the one that has my kids best interest above all else. I don't care how much of an asshole or emotionally unstable person it makes me appear to be. Its not my job to worry about the other peoples feelings, its my job to make sure my son doesn't become a statistic. That's it.

Yeah, you're right and I can totally see that. I think sometimes we make certain situations more difficult in the moment by the way we react to them.

                            Shibby,
Your anxiety level is going to directly affect your child's anxiety level at that age. If a parent is freaking out, whether anything actually happens or not, their child WILL pick up on that. Children are good at reading non-verbals. Of course, they don't do it knowingly, it's just part of how they learn, but since they don't really understand that anxiety, we can help them stay calm by keeping outselves under control and not just on the surface. And you're right, it's easier said than done, but again, that's part of what being a parent is all about. Nobody said it would be easy or that it should be easy, but it still has to be done.

i understand where your coming from - my daughter had her procedure done at albany med - the needle part was being done by an intern who could not find the vein and was becoming frustrated and trying to force it around in her arm looking for a vein - the head nurse would not take over saying she had to learn -- not at my daughters expense !!!!! she was screaming in pain - proper protocal would have been for the RN to take over and do it correctly

so you can keep your emotions incheck bullshit to yourself -- you can be my guest and let someone play lets find the fucking vein on your kids arm but not in mine
