Yeah they also should have had a standardized widths for railroads in the south, every area had their own width so the south would be going along, the track would change widths and bang train crash. That severly hindered transportation of supplies.

yup, and most of the established railroad coast to coast was in northern territory, we moved troops, weapons, food and water around much easier.
