to all you guys talking about interpreting the constitution:

it was written 242 years ago. guns were not readily available and mass-marketed and there were no laws regulating their use. just like drugs, as soon as there is a law, regulation or prohibition on something, almost everyone will see it as something they want.

and in terms of what you want to interpret, the constitution states that the government will create a militia to protect the country, including an army and navy. but no where in it does it mention an air force, but we went ahead and created it, right? but then you have literalists/conservatives that want to ban gay marriage because "the constitution states that marriage is between a man and a woman." so if you were to be a literalist, would you be against the air force? or if you were someone to interpret the constitution loosely, would you allow gay marriage?

so whatever you want to think, go ahead and think, but when it comes down to the written word of a group of men over 200 years ago, you can either take it literally or metaphorically. either way, both ways to look at it affect us equally today.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Why's that?

Because even though most assaults with a firearm happen at contact distance the attacker still manages to miss completely or only cause scant injuries. I've seen far more superficial gunshot wounds than fatal ones.

Knife wounds on the other hand are nasty, damaging and often take longer to heal. While a gun takes at least some small degree of training in order to be accurate any human with a knife can and will ruin your day.

If you get in a gun fight you MIGHT get shot, but get in a knife fight and you WILL get cut.

I so agree with this althought I have never been in a fire fight. I have been shot at. I turned and ran my ass off. I had no gun, If I did I am sure I would of just shot as I was running,lol. I was scared shitless.
I am a very good shot at the range shooting at paper but I am sure in a real fight I would do the same just shoot. the more you see it the more relaxed you get. I understand that completly from fighting in the cage.
