... it occurs that the chance for anyone of all the people that lived up to the present moment to fulfill all eight prophecies is as 1:100 000 000 000 000 000. To help us imagine how big this number is, Stoner gives the following picture: Let’s suppose that we took 1:1017 of silver one-dollar coins and we put them on the ground of the Texas state. [The area of Texas is over twice as big as that area of Poland.] They would cover the entire state with layer 60 cm thick. Now mark one of those coins and stir this entire mass on the surface of the whole state. Blindfold somebody and allow him or her to go as far as they like, but they have to pick up the one-dollar coin, exactly the one you’ve marked. What’s the probability of picking the marked coin? The same as fulfilling all eight prophecies in any single person from the time they’ve been written down to the present day. (…) Now either the prophecies were inspired by God or the prophets wrote according to their own estimation. In the latter case, they only had one chance at 1:1017 for their prophecies to be fulfilled in a single person. However they were all fulfilled in a concrete time and place in the person of Christ. This means that the fulfillment of even just these eight prophecies at once is o proof that they were inspired by God, a proof so expressive that mathematically speaking it takes only one chance at 1:1017 for it to be absolute…
I read that in college bro - it was interesting - but I have to say ( and I do believe in god ) - what are the probability that machavelli would have gotten all that stuff right , or close on (sp i know).

Look religion without faith is called.... science .... so you either have one or the other ! Simple as that too me.:weights:

"The idea that God is an oversized white male with a flowing beard who sits in the sky and tallies the fall of every sparrow is ludicrous. But if by God one means the set of physical laws that govern the universe, then clearly there is such a God. This God is emotionally unsatisfying... it does not make much sense to pray to the law of gravity." - Carl Sagan

"Anything you don't understand you attribute to God. God for you is where you sweep away all the mysteries of the world, all the challenges to our intelligence. You simply turn your mind off and say God did it." - Carl Sagan

"For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." - Carl Sagan

do you think that's true if you only live once - no after life - and you could be more satisfied and reassured ? Even if it was living in ignorant bliss, isn't bliss bliss ? Just a thought.

If you read a little more than propaganda you would know that the name Jesus (hebrew spelling of course) was as common back then as a name like Mike is to us. People made livings on being charletons and cons. It was relativly simple in those times. Hell less than 10% of the world could read or write. Thwy had no choice but to believe what the power in control told them. There are many accounts of prophecies being filled by the mesiah, but no name if Jesus. People believed what they wished to believe and put the story in place where ever they could.

imagine forcing yourself to continue to believe in Santa because it makes you feel comfortable and cozy inside. Imagine not questioning your parents or anything that dosen't make sense to you and giving it a label called "blind faith"..

would you consider a person like that to be someone you respect or think of as a smart person?

I'd become upset at that type of person, because who the fuck can defend santa - that would drive me insane.

And now I see why religious threads get so heated ... ahh...

Santa can be defended by his believers as well as religion can be defended by its believers...

dont blame me for looking down on those types of people and thinking they are.. well.. stupid.

you would do the same if you were smart enough to pull yourself out of your world of delusion and fairy tails.

                      • B, you may be only 26 but you sound much older (and wiser). As a man of science and an agnostic, I appreciate your world view very much.

                        Props, bro.

I agree. A lot of the reason I believe the way I do is not only because of faith but also because of how I have seen God work in my life.

Again, I’m not going to say that B and Shib are wrong for believing the way they do. What they choose to believe in is up to them. I am not better than them because of my beliefs. Well… I’m better than B but that has nothing to do with my beliefs. :agreed:
