But are we really that different from Russia? Are we really "the good guys" and they the "bad guy"? How many countries have we destroyed and placed puppet leaders? How many wars have we been a part of that led to nothing but the destruction of a country and a rise in groups like ISIS. How many invasions without evidence?Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostI'm surprised that you would say that. There's a huge difference between Britain and Russia. One shares our values and has been a partner for a long time and the other is an authoritarian regime actively engaged in territorial incursions and a proxy war against its neighbor. Russia's interests are to a large extent antithetical to American interests. That doesn't mean we need to be hawkish to Russia, but let's not mistake the nature of Putin's regime.

I want to add that if it turned out that Flynn and others were discussing elimination of sancti0ons prior to Jan 20, along with some unnamed favor in return, that's a huge problem.
Add to this the huge conflicts of interest that people like Rex Tillerson present. ExxonMobil signed a $500B contract for oil and gas development in the Russian Arctic, that they cannot start exploiting because of sanctions. Tillerson has a huge motive to relax sanctions as he used to be the CEO of Exxon.
This is precisely the reason why picking squeaky clean people foe these posts is so important. The public has no way to determine if any action by the administration is purely in the country's interests, or is it designed to line some fat cat's pockets.

I am fully aware that we engage in realpolitik as much as any other country. Every country does sketchy things and we have done more than our fair share. In fact a substantial portion of the terrorism thst we currently blame on "radical Islamic terror" has been a direct result of terrible Western policies in the ME.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostBut are we really that different from Russia? But that being said, moral relativism is a slippery slope. I don't buy the argument that we need to get in bed with Russia and turn a blind eye to what they are doing in Ukraine. We should definitely not be overly hawkish and increase tensions, and we should certainly try to find common ground, but I think we should hold their feet to the fire if they destabilize Europe.

Did you hear the reason? So Flynn had an assistant KT McFarland that Trump wanted to keep on as an assistant. Harward obviously wanted to have his own assistants that he would have a say in hiring. He said no, Trump insisted McFarland stay and Harward walked.
I would too. No way I am going to be given a staff in whose hiring I had no say in, for a job like NSA.

Harward calls the job a "shit sandwich" to his friend. Ahahahahahaha...
Harward says no to national security adviser role - CNNPolitics.com
All jokes aside, this is what the article says:
"A senior Republican familiar with the process said "a question of clarity regarding the lines of authority" was central in Harward's decision."
I think I know what's happening. Harward isn't convinced he can make decisions without intereference with bozos like Bannon and Stephen Miller.Last edited by Scrumhalf; 02-16-17, 08:34 PM.

Shepard Smith from Fox News blasts Trump:
holy shit. i cannot believe that came out of the mouth of a fox news reporter! bravo! he will probably be fired now.Your opposition was hacked and the Russians were responsible for it and your people were on the phone with Russia on the same day it was happening and we're fools for asking the questions? No sir, We are not fools for asking this question, and we demand to know the answer to this question. You owe this to the American people. Your supporters will support you either way. If your people were on the phone, what were they saying? We have a right to know, we absolutely do and that you call us fake news and put us down like children for asking these questions on behalf of the American people is inconsequential. The people deserve an answer to this question at very least.

Attacking federal judges will unite the courts against him.
Attacking journalists will unite the press against him.
Attacking the Intelligence Agencies will unite the world against him.
He did promise to unite the country...I just never considered he would do it this way.

On the one hand I applaud Canada. On the other, part of me thinks as soon as big numbers start pouring across Canada will strain. And as soon as there is any sort of terrorist attack inside of Canada and it traces back to any refugee the public opinion will change and Trump will stand up and scream "I TOLD YOU SO"! It's a matter of time. Sad to say. All it takes is 1 extremist for every million refugees to ruin it for everyone else.
