Again, what does Kim want? He wants to stay in power. That's his singular motive. If making steak knives was the way to ensure he stays in power, then he'll be instructing all his labs to do knife research.

What we need to do is to convince him that talking to us is not a pretext to removing him from power. Like we did with Gaddafi.

The way to address this is to have talks without ANY preconditions. We have to accept that NK is a nuclear power whether we like it or not and there is nothing we can do about it. Now, where do we go from here? We have to do two things: 1) convince Kim that we don't have any hostile intentions towards him in particular or his regime and 2) convince him that if he agrees to put a lid on further nuclear development, then we will lift sanctions, have trade, etc. etc, like we did with Iran.

It's not going to be easy because frankly, our track record of keeping our word is not very good, but it's the only path forward.

The fact of the matter is that NK holds all the cards militarily, so we need to get him to the table and convince him that it is in his best interest to not play them.

You are making assumptions that he is your typical dictator. What if he isn't? What if he wants to watch the world burn and we allow him to continue.

All that may be true, but we don't really have any military cards to play. Not sure what you are going to do. All his conventional weapons are distributed all over the place. I don't think there are any military options that don't involve huge numbers of civilian casualities.

Japan, South Korea, and America hitting from all angles air and sea can have a more effective impact then you give them credit for I think.

America targets the missile launch sites, South Korea targets the artilary aimed at them, Japan targets communications and we do it all simultaneously.

Do ICBMs need satellite guidance scrum? The US Navy has already shot down some of our obsolete satellites so surely we could take out North Koreas satellites correct?

Scrum. You are wrong on this one. Your viewpoint is 100% off the mark.

We'll just have to disagree on this. I don't believe this problem will be solved by military means.

Instead of the mindless US press that wants war almost as much as our chicken hawk politicians, read this article instead.

Incase you aren't aware, Reuters (the screenshots I posted above) is not "US Press". They are an international news agency headquartered in London.
