The majority of the taxes are paid by those of us in the coastal cities. The average income in the Bay Area is over 100k. People are thriving there. Plenty of money to make and plenty of jobs. San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland. This is where the big money is.

I work here for the money and I used that money to buy a home in a more rural area (Lake Tahoe). I have an exit plan and am playing the game. Although the Bay Area is also a great fucking place to live. I go to the beach on weekends in Half Moon Bay, I got to great restaurants, museums, car shows. Year round I can do any of this shit, weather is awesome.

Still good jobs and opportunities in San Diego too and it's hella conservative there. The big marine base is down there. Great place to live.

"New California" LMAO. This is being pushed hard by Russian Trolls on twitter and RT.com - they want the US to tear itself apart. Wake up people. Look at Brexit and who was behind that.

California has the 6th largest economy in the entire world. The federal govt receives the highest percentage of their revenue (via taxes) from California in order to subsidize all the welfare and infrastructure in the poor southern red states.

The reason the coastal cities are so expensive to live in is because that's where everyone WANTS to live. Fucking beautiful scenery, phenomenal weather, jobs, good infrastructure. Why do you think Bouncer moved to Sacramento instead of the coastal cities? $$$. Taxes are a little bit higher than average but you get what you pay for!

California is a great balance for a centrist like myself. The bay area is a bit too liberal for me, LA is left but not that much, San diego is conservative, and all the rural areas are conservative and produce the most healthy organic crops one could ever ask for.

    Great fucking State!

BUT. I also don't believe that the unique problems and issues of a big city should be handled exactly the same as they are out in the country side. A cow farmer that is 200 miles away from any city lives a completely different life. so much so that he might as well live on a different planet. why should a California farmer have to follow the same gun laws that is imposed in a rough part of Oakland because of nightly murders. there are some remote towns in California that have literally never had a murder. should that area really be governed in the same way that Los Angeles is governed?

I love California. I even like some things about the cali government. When it comes to clean environment laws we lead the way. I think we can all agree that clean water, fresh air, and clean national forests and parks is a good thing.

Then there are things that I hate about the Cali government. We basically reward illegal immigration by sending out the signal "if you can make it hear you will be protected". that is a slap in the face to people trying to do it legally. it gives law abiding citizens zero incentive to do things the right way.

I don't even need to get into the 2nd amendment issues but California gun laws are silly, unenforceable, and they favor the criminal who has no intention of following any sort of laws. pointless "feel good laws" made up by some politician that has never so much as held a gun made for snowflakes that have no understanding of guns sleep better at night because "California has strict gun laws". if the day comes that a criminal breaks into their house I guess they will say in a very firm voice "that is an illegal weapon!"... right before they are shot dead because they had no way of defending themselves..
Damn straight. Make Chicago and it's Suburbs their own state. They can even call themselves Illinois. The rest of us can be East Iowa.

Lol @ Hollywood the dieing industry.

I'll give you silicon valley but without the heart of California (the country side) the coast would be importing everything to sustain itself. So if there were a "new California", old California would be more dependant on it then the other way around.
