People being forced to show respect out of fear of reprisal is not showing respect, it is forced Nationalism.

Then move to a different country that you would want to show respect towards. I get Scrums take on wanting to improve our country. I think that's something we would all agree with. But then stand and honor the country and those that gave their lives so you can enjoy the freedoms that you most likely don't appreciate.
I'm totally fine with the guys kneeling for the anthem, because it's their "intent" I look at and not their specific actions. Their intent is to draw attention to policy brutality (like we saw with the Baltimore cop story carrying fake guns to plant on people just in case they get trigger happy and shoot someone). Their intent is not to disrespect the country they happen to be born into.
If they were holding signs that said "fuck America, I hate this place" while standing with their hand over their hearts then I'd be outraged, because their intent is to disrespect the country and the flag, but it sounds like you guys might be OK with that since they are not kneeling?

This is exactly my point. You are trying to force me to be a Nationalist... It's my way or the highway! Move to Canada!

How am I free if I am forced/pressured into standing for the Pledge of Allegiance etc? If I sit for it or question it I am berated by insults? How is that being free?
You are free! Free to believe what I believe!
People forget the principles the U.S. was founded on. Why we revolted from Great Britain.

I hear what your saying but at the same time can you picture George Washington kneeling? The very act of kneeling to me is weak. Stand fucken proud or walk away but fuck kneeling.
This is the beginning of the end...when all is lost this is what will be remembered as to why The once mighty America fell. Funny how for over 200 years..the flag was a symbol of unity for all American all colors religions...now its a symbol of hatred oppression and racism in somes view... I guess some one forgot to inform the black union soldiers who fought for it, under it and behind it back in the civil war...poor bastards must be rolling over in their graves now.
Believe what you must but remember this...united we stand..divided we fall.

He would not have stood for King George III. That was the Nationalistic thing to do when we were under the rule of Great Britian.
We were founded on the principles of popular sovereignty, separation of powers, rule of law, checks an balances, and federalism. Me not wanting to stand if I do not want to for the National Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance infringes on none of these principles.

I understand that but George Washington was proud of what he fought for. People today couldn't give a shit what he fought for. Add to that most people don't have a clue what he fought for in the first place.
I'm not saying you are wrong in your argument by the way. You do have the right not to stand. But I have the right to think it's a bit disrespectful.

And that is what makes the U.S. great. It's a conglomeration of differing perspectives.
