i think a trainer would be good for you in terms of working out. in terms of actual diet, you cant get better info then right here. we have told you exactly what you need to be eating countless times. not sure what you don't get when it comes to diet. if you are confused about something lets hear it.Originally posted by NewbieChris View PostI feel like there is so much out there and so many people use things differently and I don't know what the hell to do.:breakit::breakit::breakit:

I guess what I am concerned about is understanding how things work. For example, talking to a dietitian I was told that fruits and milk are important. Talking to you guys, it seems that you believe there are too many sugars in such items to gain a benefit. That is the reason I decided to take this to a trainer as well. I don't really need help with training, IMO. What I am hoping to gather from his is the ability to understand changes in my body and how my body reacts to things.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Posti think a trainer would be good for you in terms of working out. in terms of actual diet, you cant get better info then right here. we have told you exactly what you need to be eating countless times. not sure what you don't get when it comes to diet. if you are confused about something lets hear it.

when you talk to someone about "health" such as a doc or "dietitian" they will tell you that milk and fruit etc are important.Originally posted by NewbieChris View PostI guess what I am concerned about is understanding how things work. problem is, a diet with fruit and milk wont get you the results you want. a bodybuilding diet is setup for results, not necessarily for health. though it is much more healthy then most diets.
bottom line, if you want results, follow a bodybuilding diet. if you want to keep your current look and be "healthy" then do what the dietitian tells you.

I feel like the diet you guys have helped me create is good. This guy seems to have a similar mentality as many people here, but I say that only having spoken to him for about an hour and only knowing you all via the internet. I think right now I am just mentally frustrated.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postwhen you talk to someone about "health" such as a doc or "dietitian" they will tell you that milk and fruit etc are important.

whatever you say bro. not really sure how to help someone such as yourself to be honest. you certainly have the brains to understand all of what you have been told to do. somehow though you seems to be having a harder time getting started then most people.Originally posted by NewbieChris View PostYou are completely correct. This is the reason I want a trainer. It is also the reason i want him to help me with diet.

I think the problem is I don't have the mindset for this...in addition to not having the understanding of why something is happening. Like, last semester I ate really well. I didn't drink and I worked out and ran. I would run with a diet for 6 weeks, lost some pounds...then plateau. I try changing things, but that caused problems and I started gaining weight again. Then I got frustrated and messed up my diet.
Posts like wnabeabeast, redsquirrel, and some of yours where you are frank and not insulting are the best. They help me rethink the way I look at it and remind me that there is always something I can do to change things. Like I've said, this is a completely different lifestyle than I am used to in terms of diet.
I'm sorry if you feel your help has been in vein. I hope you understand it is not.

i dont feel it has been in vein. it just frustrates me a bit that i cant seem to figure out a way to help you understand exactly what you need to do.Originally posted by NewbieChris View PostI think the problem is I don't have the mindset for this...in addition to not having the understanding of why something is happening. maybe explain a little bit more what you mean when you say, "i dont have the mindset for this". you have to understand, to someone like me that simply means you dont want it bad enough or you are to lazy to do it. i dont really think that is what you mean though. i think the problem is that you are so different then many of us here that its almost like a different language when we talk to each other etc..

I agree with that. I have family members that struggle with weight and how to eat right, etc. I sort of look at it like "well, I guess you don't want it bad enough or you'd just do what it takes."
This thread is actually really good Chris. It gives you the chance to say/ask what you don't understand/struggle with, WITHOUT feeling like you're getting looked down on, or beat up for not quite "getting it". Props to you for putting yourself out here and asking what others reading may be afraid to ask :)

Chris, one thing that really helps a lot of people is to keep this thread active. If you make yourself accountable in front of other people, it sort of helps motivate you. Almost like you don't want to let anyone down (Not that you care what any of us think, but hopefully you understand what I mean). Like you won't want to come here and say you forgot to eat, or whatever else excuse may happen.
And Bouncer is really good at "checking in" on people and their progress.

I have trouble understanding the small meal and how it can have such a huge effect on me. Its not like I am going to McDonalds or eating shit. Eating every few hours seems crazy to me and forcing myself to do has been very difficult.
I think one of the biggest problems is being at home. My Mom doesn't really understand this meal set up and neither do the majority of my friends. I'm hoping that time spent with a trainer will help my attitude.
