Good thing is that Motorola has put very little stuff on top of native Android and what's there is generally useful. All the AT&T crapware came stuck in one folder which I can conveniently ignore.

Moto maker isn't an app, it is the customization website for your physical preferences; trim color, front and back color, back finish (metal, leather, wood).Originally posted by Scrumhalf View Post
Yes, I've got it mostly set up. The phone came with the Moto app, which walked me through all the setups. I have the night mode set up, the proximity sensors and the visual sensors that can tell if I am looking at the screen and adjust the display accordingly, and the audible stuff to give the phone commands by voice. Works great!

Oh OK, sorry I misunderstood. I thought you meant the software setup. No, I just got the plain black phone from AT&T. I could have picked up the white/bamboo but I didn't like the wood finishes, so I just stuck with black.Originally posted by blm View Post

I'm still undecided between HTC or moto x; the storage is my hang up now. HTC 160GB vs motos 32GB. The additional memory being removable which I really prefer. If anything happens to the phone most of your media is saved. If I do move forward with the moto x I'll likely get the black walnut finish.

Htc has the better battery life. I can only find 16g moto x for at&t. I do use dropbox for pictutes, but still want more than 16g for my money.

Better battery, camera and camera software (less pixels but better images), better audio. However performance bench tests the moto x comes out on top.Originally posted by Turbo3000 View Post

These are both very good phones. You can't go wrong with either. I think it comes down to personal preference. I compared the X, the M8 and the LG G3. Didn't like the G3, so it was between the first two. I liked the larger display in a smaller form factor of the X and didn't feel that the front speakers were that big a deal for my usage model. Moreover, the SD card and larger memory are again not deal breakers for me, since I don't really store anything on the phone. I started off leaning towards the M8 but decided on the X because of the above factors.

I'm waiting on a sub $400, HTC m8 google play edition to be listed on swappa. The camera is a small steps backwards from my note 3, but I think that I'm the limiting factor in picture quality, not the hardware.Originally posted by blm View PostBetter battery, camera and camera software (less pixels but better images), better audio. I don't ever look at benchmarks. I use a phone for email, music, text, and calls. I have yet to find a phone that couldn't handle my work load.
This damn split screen multitasking will be the main samsung feature that I will miss.

You guys can say what you want about different phones being better but let me hit you with a real world fact. I do not own the Moto X or even a motorola phone in general so this is no fanboy bs here. Nobody reads the amount of in depth reviews on tech then I do. One thing that keeps sticking out about the Moto X (2nd Gen) is something that won't necessarily show in the review. More than any other phone Iv'e seen, people LOVE this fucken phone once they have it. It's a bit odd but people get attached to the phone. It's just made for ease of use, to fit your hand perfectly, and to work with you. There may be a better spec here or there with other phones but from what I've read the experience with this phone trumps them all. I'm convinced it is THE phone to have. Iv'e seen more than one respectable tech site label it the very best phone ever made. Sometimes you have to look past the spec war.
I love my Nexus 5 but if I were to upgrade it would not be the Nexus 6, it would be the Moto X (2nd Gen).
P.S. I damn sure wouldn't get that ugly wood that blm got on his though. :D

I'm glad your looking for a google play edition phone. For those that don't know. It's pure android like the Nexus line without the garbage the phones companies install over it. Samsung is by far the biggest offender of this. Their software cheapens and trashes android. I'm actually upset that someone as seemingly smart as you are would ever be caught dead with such shit.Originally posted by Turbo3000 View PostI'm waiting on a sub $400, HTC m8 google play edition to be listed on swappa. No regrets so far. Phone is a beast. I like all the little touches that Moto added. Everything they have done has been subtle and adding to the stock Android experience, not trying to redo it for the sake of changing something. Even AT&T didn't try to ruin the party - the phone came with all the AT&T apps bundled into one folder (which I have completely ignored).
Good call, Bouncer! The Moto X wasn't really on my radar before you mentioned it - as an One X owner, I was fixated on the M8. But the Moto X is a better phone for me, no doubt about it.

I was wondering when you would comment on the wood finish. I knew you'd hate it. Lol.
The phones are nearly identical spec wise. Few minor differences here and there.
The fact that its basically pure android is why I will probably go with the moto x. I can adapt to cloud storage.
And although I do like the wood finish, I'm not sure I would like it to look at everyday. Plus unless I use a clear cover I'd rarely rarely see it. So I'll just go with black.
Thanks for all the input and feedback. This thread has been very useful.
