i think for me its about capability. a chihuahua isn't capable of protecting you. a Chihuahua isn't able to "connect" on the same level as a larger dog. the brain capacity of a small dog just isn't the same. a chihuahua will bark at a cat and then proceed to get beat to shit by it.

i think the defining characteristic of what constitutes a dog should be it's ability to defeat a cat. :D

But they're still basically one in the same just smaller. The "pit bull" was renamed the amstaff back in the 70s. The cross breeding process is still the same. They're both bull terrier breeds.
Agree, many small differences though if your interested.

What is the difference between Bull Terrier and Pit Bull Terrier?

      · Pit bull terriers originated in the United States but Bull terriers in England.

      · Pit bull has a shorter snout compared to Bull terrier.

      · Bull terrier has an egg shaped large head but not for Pit bull terrier.

      · The eyes of Pit bull are round, but those are triangular shaped in Bull terriers.

      · In general, both are in the same range of weights and heights, but Pit bulls are stronger than Bull terriers.

      · Bull terriers are more attached to home compared to Pit bull terriers.

      · Bull terriers are mostly white in colouration, while Pit bull terriers are available in different colours.

      · Pit bulls have a large and curved upper lip that covers the lower lip, whereas Bull terriers have a small upper lip that does not cover the lower lip.

      · The snout of Pit bull directs slightly upwards, whereas it slopes smoothly and evenly in Bull terriers.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty well read on the subject. I was planning on getting an apbt when I got out of the army so I did a lot of reading on the breed and related breeds. I ended up losing a deposit on one because I chose not to get him because I was traveling with work too much. Then years later I was going to get one but my wife was against it so I got Duke, our Boxer.

I have no issues with little dogs as long as they are trained properly. The majority I have experience with are yippy, snappy, and uncontrollable. The owners seem to think since they are little the same rules don't apply. Just like little bratty kids, lol.

          I love all dogs.

And you made a good choice with the Boxer as you know. As a Boxer owner you might be interested in this. The 2 breeds are similar in many ways both being "bully breeds". But there are some big differences that I've noticed and have been surprised about. I always though of pitbulls as just tough ass bull type dogs but I failed to realize how much terrier is actually in them. When we goes on walks she hears and spots fucken lizards crawling in the sand or a tree from 15 feet away. Her hearing is absolutely incredible. She is also a major fetcher, she will fetch all day long. The boxer however was never a fetcher, he like to play keep away. :D So yea, people don't realize what makes up most of the characteristics of a pitbull is actually the terrier side. That intense energy level and determination is all terrier. It's just the physical aspect that makes people see them as something other then a terrier. She's basically a jack Russel terrier in a warrior body. lol

Anyway, they are getting along pretty good. I've completely stopped all rough house play because she takes it to far. The boxer still has the size advantage and he can still scare her a bit but she just will not stop until I yell or pull her off so I've decided never to even let it get started.

Another surprise for me is just how much pitbulls like to snuggle. She is a little love bug. The boxer was always much more subtle about it. Always playing it off like he don't need that shit. My boy. :D

              THIS.

I think I would have a better attitude about small dogs if every single one I ran into wasn't fucking annoying and the stupid ass women that usually walk around with them seem to think it's all just cute as the dog yips in that high pitch squeal of a bark. On many occasions I thought to myself that I wish that little shit would get hurt just enough to teach it a lesson but not enough to cause any real damage..

Sorry FB, I know you love your baby as much as any dog owner. I guess the same can be said for pits. It's usually the pile of shit owners that give the breed the bad name. I'm sure it's possible for chihuahua to be raised in a way that makes it well behaved.

God this makes me so angry I fucken shake. Someone give this poor baby a good home. I'm sure she has some issues but God damn it she just needs someone she can trust and love and someone who will play with her and give her attention.

This photo was taken moments after Lana's family returned her to a boarding kennel — a place that she knew all too well.

Named ‘Dog of the Year’, He Threw Himself In Front of Bus To Save Owner

A golden retriever guide dog was honored this week with the title of ASPCA 2015 Dog of the Year for his courage and loyalty in the face of danger.

Last June, Figo was helping his blind owner, Audrey Stone, cross a major street in Brewster, New York.

As they did, a bus was quickly approaching.

Acting as much on his innate courage as his Guide Dog Foundation training, Figo immediately put himself in the path of the bus, sustaining a severe injury but successfully protecting Audrey.

Even after getting injured, Figo did not leave his owner’s side until help arrived.

While Audrey mended in the hospital, and media reports touted the retriever’s heroic deed, Figo recovered at a local veterinarian’s office, when the cost of his treatment picked up by an anonymous benefactor.

Weeks later, the two were joyously reunited – and the latest “Dog of the Year” award reminds them both of their enduring bond of friendship.
