I don't like the automobile analogy because Automobiles are indeed regulated and on top of that you MUST purchase liability insurance in order to operate one.Originally posted by Bouncer View Posti don't view you as a criminal because someone else kills people with their car.
Nobody wants to ban automobiles, but they do want to regulate their safety, regulate who is allowed to drive them, and regulate the fact that you need insurance in case you hurt someone with it. This is equivalent to "gun control". Nobody wants to ban cars, and most even on the left don't want to ban guns either, but they do want to regulate them (semi-auto, magazine capacity, age restrictions, background checks, insurance?, etc...)Last edited by Keiser; 03-12-18, 02:55 PM.

Why? It means socially aware. How is that racist? Just because it came from black vernacular and crossed over to mainstream usage? The origin of the word not pure enough for you or something?Originally posted by lipripper View Postracist as fuck...but enjoy:thumup:

I'll give Scrum one thing. Thanks to the internet the younger generation is more informed that most people over 50. Instead of just listening to talking points, they actually look at the data, they look at statistics. Percentage wise a 16 year old is more likely to have more complete information on something like global warming because they actually look at and understand the data and how it works, while a 50 year old just hears Rush Limbaugh on AM radio telling them that Al Gore created the hoax of Global Warming and just go with that instead of actually trying to understand it.
In this regard, the 16 years olds will indeed save us.

I mentioned early that my conservative friend from TX whom I grew up with came to visit me and wanted to bring the gun on our short hike, but anyways he was going on and on about Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation and how she used that foundation to make millions of dollars from foreign nations in return for speaking engagements. I told him I can't really debate this, because I don't know much about it so I'll take his word for it and he told me to watch some documentary called Clinton Cash.
Well, I watched it and I was pretty outraged and disgusted and sided with him on this. Then, instead of taking it at face value I chose to spend a day and do some deep research and guess what? It's a public charity and EVERYTHING, including the money coming in and going out is on public record. 90% of every dime taken in actually went to legitimate charities. 10% went to "Administrative Tasks". On top of that we have 30 years of Hillary Clinton's tax returns to look through which are also public record to prove this since she actually released them prior to running for office (unlike Trump).
A 50+ year old would be more likely to take this 'Clinton Cash' documentary at face value. A 16 year old would do the type of deep research I did to find out the truth.
In this regard, the 16 year olds are going to save us.

Of course you can find "many" on either side who want crazy shit. I think many on the left want more regulations than there are now but many also like Obama believe in the 2nd Amendment.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostMany on the left want the 2nd amendment gone and guns are regulated.
Since you like the automobile analogy are you OK with mandating gun owners purchase liability insurance?

There is no mainstream opinion on the left that wants a repeal of the 2nd amendment. A repeal of an amendment is next to impossible to achieve, think about it, particuarly on an issue like gun ownership where there is a lot of gray, unlike say something like slavery, which was really an open and shut issue. The right's favorite whipping boy, Obama, was in power for 8 years and people were screaming hoarse on how he was going to take away everyone's guns, and nothing happened.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostMany on the left want the 2nd amendment gone and guns are regulated.
The whole idea that the left is going to repeal the 2A and take away everyone's guns is another strawman that the NRA has tried to push. It is part of their extremist agenda and the only thing it does is to prevent rational debate on how best to tackle gun violence which remains a major health issue in this country.

Having mandated insurance for a constitutionally protected RIGHT is absurd.Originally posted by Keiser View PostOf course you can find "many" on either side who want crazy shit. I think many on the left want more regulations than there are now but many also like Obama believe in the 2nd Amendment.

And please explain how giving money to an insurance company is going to stop a mentally unstable kid from shooting his classmates.Last edited by chuckz28; 03-12-18, 05:45 PM.

The NRA opposes universal background checks which is supported by over 85% of the American public. They actively lobbied to repeal the provision to restrict people with mental health issues from obtaining guns. They also have lobbied successfully to prevent the CDC from researching the causes and potential fixes for gun violence, which objectively is a serious health issue in the country. Can you imagine Ford and Chrysler lobbying against car safety research?Originally posted by chuckz28 View PostProtecting a constitutional amendment is hardly any extremist agenda scrum.
That's the extremist agenda I am talking about.

I disagree with the opinion that private sales requiring background checks is extremist either for or against.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostThe NRA opposes universal background checks which is supported by over 85% of the American public. The NRA lobbied against allowing the Social Security Administration to provide disability benefit information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. This does not come with HIPAA. The fact remains that it is already illegal to sell guns to anyone “who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has been committed to a mental institution” per Title 18 section 922(g) of the United States Code.
I don't know the NRA reasoning for trying to block cdc research but I'm always weary of what their conclusions will be, mainly more gun control laws for law abiding gun owners since criminals by nature don't follow laws.

I'd rather the NRA fight for every square inch. It's become a cliche but it's true. You give an inch they take a mile. If the NRA agrees to everything you propose and it's put into law what do you think will happen the next shooting? You fuckers will come along and want more restrictions, regulations, etc.. it will never stop. It will never be enough. You will take and take from legal law abiding gun owners because of the actions of a nut.
For those reasons I am glad the NRA has a no compromise attitude even if I personally support strong background checks.
