ignorance is bliss my brother. you are a smart guy and you know history. you know that even in seemingly very stable empires and nations have turned to chaos literally overnight. From Ancient Egypt to Rome to Ancient Greece to America itself in the days and weeks before the Civil War. If you know anything about the Civil War you would know that nobody saw it as a war that would last long and most thought there would be no blood shed even in the days leading up to the war.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostLuckily, we aren't afraid of our own shadows like you guys are.
it's not about being afraid. it's about being prepared to a reasonable level. if there is ever chaos and looting in your neighborhood and in your city you will have absolutely zero ability to defend yourself or your family. you are okay with that. you are okay with just hoping for the best. you have that right. but if shit ever does go down I guarantee you will see in that very moment before you are attacked how flawed your whole belief system was.

Thanks. I'll take my chances. I have a lot more peace of mind not being anywhere close to firearms than being armed to the gills 24x7, worrying about some doomsday Mad Max scenario that will, in my opinion, never come to pass.

Scrum, why would you think that we are scared?
Culturally you and I are very different. Did your family own firearms? Were you taught about the safety of firearms? Did your family take you hunting when you were a young boy? Growing up did you see your family carry? Like I said before, carrying is second nature to me and a lot of others. I have never felt the need to carry because I felt threatened or scared. When I get home my firearm goes immediately in my locked safe. I don't walk around my house with a pistol in each hand waiting for someone to break in. lol I know it's different than you were brought up but you're smart enough to understand these differences.

yea great. even though history proves peace never lasts in literally every empire/nation. good plan.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostThanks. I'll take my chances. We haven't had a scenario like you describe in literally forever. A complete breakdown of society, a dog-eat-dog, every man for himself, scenario is theoretically possible but rather unlikely. I think my time and money are better spent on more pleasant pursuits than training to be a post apocalyptic survivor. It is also far better for my state of mind.Originally posted by Bouncer View Postyea great. even though history proves peace never lasts in literally every empire/nation. good plan.
All we want is for gun owners to point their weapons in some safe direction so that their precious liberty to own firearms does not take away (over and over again) our right to life and pursuit of happiness.

as you well know, Rome, Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt were all great empires that lasted far far longer then the Untied States has existed. Guess what, they all came crashing down in chaos.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostWe haven't had a scenario like you describe in literally forever. will it happen in our lifetime, probably not. but is there a chance.. absolutely. especially considering the divisiveness that is ever increasing in the country. look around the world scrum, chaos is reigning.
do i walk around thinking the world will end tomorrow. absolutely not. it probably wont happen in our lifetime. but having some type of preparation is never a bad thing.
you speak of firearms as if they have a mind of their own. you say you feel safe "staying far away from them" as if they are going to hurt you without a person behind that trigger. you know nothing of them and you fear them thus you have an ignorant view towards them.

all i want is for car owners to drive with care and keep their eyes on the road instead of texting and killing people.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View Post

don't put gun owners into this group as if we are all criminals. i don't view you as a criminal because someone else kills people with their car.

First I don't love illegal immigrants, but I'm not scared of them and screaming to send them away. Plenty of good people here that have been working on getting their citizenship. I don't hate police but I don't defend them infringing on our civil rights and I don't hate guns. I've put my share of rounds down range and I own a gun. But I do believe that the avergae Joe Blow doesn't need a AR-15 just because it looks cool and he wants to feel like he's playing Call of Duty or something.Originally posted by Bouncer View Postthe opposite of this (liberal) loves and welcomes illegals, loves and welcomes Muslim refugees, hates the police, and hates guns. sounds about right to me..
P.S. Gun owners (who tend to lean towards conservative) don't depend on the police to "protect them". It's the liberals who will be up shit creek if shit ever hits the fan. They hate police and hate guns. What are these fuckers gonna do? Throw their starbucks in the face of the bad guy? lol. fuck outta here.
And "The Shit is never going to hit the fan" so don't be afraid. It's like not flying because you're worried about dying in a plane crash.

i don't hate Mexicans either. they are welcome to become citizens. but we can't just have open boarders.Originally posted by FrankTheTank55 View PostFirst I don't love illegal immigrants, but I'm not scared of them and screaming to send them away. i don't defend shitty cops who break the law but I refuse to shit on all of them as is the current trend.
if you own a Ferrari does that mean you want to feel like your a formula 1 driver? maybe you just like Ferrari's. that's how dumb your AR analogy is. why is an AR-15 any different from an M1 Garand? Why is it any different from a semi auto hunting rifle? do you know the difference?

Sure.
And we have reasonable restrictions on who can and cannot drive and what kind lf training and licensing is appropriate without violating anyone's Constitutional rights. We have restrictions on what kinds of vehicles people can drive without violating the interstate commerce clause of the Constitution. We have BAC laws. We have seatbelt laws, airbag laws, TPMS laws, etc to make sure we keep things as safe as possible. And these things have made a HUGE difference in a reduction in automotive fatalities over the last few decades.
A lot of these laws came about because of scientific research in universities and places like the CDC.
But the NRA does not want to even hear of common sense restrictions on firearms. Universal background checks? Nope, NRA opposes. Preventing people with mental health issues from getting firearms? Nope, NRA opposed and got the law changed. And the most asinine of all, CDC research to figure out how to reduce gun violence? Nope, nope, nope, NRA does not want. And craven politicians who want the NRA lucre toe the line.
The idea that "libtards" want to take away all your guns is a canard, a strawman that the NRA has propped up. Their extreme intransigence is absolutely not serving their ostensible constituents, law-abiding and responsible gun owners who do want to use and enjoy their hobby safely. By refusing reasonable compromise, they are abdicating their seat at the table to figure out how to solve gun violence in this country.

Nobody is asking for open borders.
Nobody is anti cop, just anti bad cop and the pervasive brushing under the carpet of minorities taking the brunt of cop violence.
Solving the immigration issue is easy. The problem is that we need to leave our xenophobia and racism at the door, and politicians absolutely cannot seem to do that.

news flash. there are literally hundreds of gun laws on the books. a person can not go and buy an automatic weapon from walmart like you seem to think.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostSure.

we have a national background check system in place that prevents felons and other criminals with a record from buying a firearm. do you honestly believe there is no national background check in place right now?
