  • Agree. I just wouldn't avoid playing a certain game for fear my son or daughter might see or hear it. They would see it for what it is. Entertainment. If there was any sign they were getting the lines blurred it would be made clear to them.

    • It may seem that simple but it's really not. There is a difference between life happening and too much to soon making it unnecessarily harder to be a parent and a kid. I will gladly sacrifice playing a video game if that means giving my kids more time to just be kids and not have to be concerned with every danger in the world.

      • Bouncer, I have been thinking about how to explain this in a more relatable way.

First I will pose a question. Would you act the same way and say the same things at a kids birthday party as you would hanging out with your buddies? Would you play porn or other graphic material around kids not caring if they see?

Next, an example of how this is an ever flowing thing where decisions have to be made day to day about your children. When my older son was 6 I use to watch all sorts of movies with him, especially old ones (Terminators, Commando, Transformers...) and he loved seeing the weapons and stuff. The death and violence wasn't really comprehensible. A year ago we were watching some movie of the same type with my younger son who was 5 and the older being 8. My 8 year old got scared, had bad dreams and was having a little trouble falling asleep thinking someone was going to come in our house and do bad things. 5 year old just thought it was a cool movie and didn't have any fears.

Somewhere around age 7 when they are in 1st grade, they start becoming much more self aware. The problem is they don't have the life experience to break things down into what we would think is a logical view point. Yes we talked to him to try and help him understand things, but we realized through error that's it's not as simple as just exposing them to things, talking to him and being done with it. As they become more self aware and therefore more able to comprehend the dangers of the world, they aren't ready to handle it on their own. This is why as a parent I will try and delay them being exposed to something until they mature to the point that I not only can talk to them about it, but they can fully comprehend the conversation. A lot of that has to do with balance. Do they see and hear the right things, in the rest of their life, to give balance and true perspective to the things they are being exposed to? Just trying to explain it to them isn't enough a lot of times. They, just like most people, need to learn for themselves about consequences.

Going back to your statement about kids being smarter than given credit for. I absolutely give them credit for how smart they are, but that doesn't change the fact that they are psychologically still immature. A maturity that will only come with time. To just say that they will find out sooner or later, so oh well; I think is the kind of poor parenting that currently makes the world so selfish now. It pushes the onus of being there for your children to guide them like a responsible parent. Instead letting oneself become apathetic about raising a child and letting the rest of the world do it instead.

        • I agree TKD, but it doesn't keep me from getting some games. I have games the kids know they aren't allowed playing and they are put away. Same thing for denying multiplayer via psn or xblive until they get a little older. Kids tend to repeat what they hear to other friends so I'll avoid access to certain things to keep them out of trouble until they mature a bit.

          • My kids don't even know about the game. I am just choosing to skip it over getting it and setting restrictions and in turn creating the curiosity about the game. And leaving it to only playing after they go to bed.

            • My kids don't know about it either but my 10 yr old has asked to play call of duty online which I know better than that with the filth that is discussed amongst people.

                • Gotcha. I know that any game with a Mature rating I play through first before allowing them to to make sure there isn't any drug content or sexual scenes.

                    • Well I finally finished GTA 5 last night. I can't say anything more then I already have about the game. Simply fantastic. Total time played from start to finish all 69 missions.. 45 hours. LOL. Basically took me almost 2 hours a day for a month to beat it. That's what I call a value! People pay $10-$20 to rent or buy a movie that last 2 hours.

Read last night that the game cost $265 million to make and has already exceeded $1 billion in sales eclipsing the entire global music industry. These aren't your childhood games anymore my friend..

Started playing a little bit of Last of Us again which is the other game that came with the PS4 bundle. Another amazing game but I've already completed that game on PS3 so it's more just playing again for the graphics and 60 frames per second on the PS4 vs the 30 fps on PS3. Pretty big difference. So much smoother.

                          • So it's pretty clear that PS4 is the more powerful of the consoles and has also outsold the Xbox One by a large amount.

Microsoft has now made that problem far worse by raising the price back to $400!! LMAO. What the fuck kind of business move is this? This will equate to less sales then before the price cut. Mark my words.
